[When he passed out after confronting Horada and the others, Masaomi wasn't sure he'd wake up. And he was OK with that. He'd made his choice. He'd done what he had to do - and, even if he'd needed Kadota's unrequested help, at least he hadn't failed. He hadn't chickened out. Not this time.
Coming to in the hospital had been a bonus, a second chance he wasn't sure he deserved, but secretly made him happy anyway. Until the doctors had told him the news. All those blows to his head had come at a cost. A blood vessel in his brain was set to burst, and though it might take weeks to happen, it would definitely happen; there was no way to operate. And when that vessel popped -...
It was funny, really. Masaomi had been OK with the idea of dying. But... not like this.]

[Dorothy had been in the hospital for a similar reason enough. The smack of the window to the back of her head left her with on-off-on-again-off-again migraines, and she was brought in for the medication to make that throbbing go away. Sat in a room across from the young man with his head down, looking a cross between deep in thought and thoroughly beaten, she can't help her curiosity.
IV in her arm, she takes the pole and walks to the door. It doesn't matter that her head still hurts, she's curious, and nothing will stop her from standing in the doorway and knocking gently.]
That works! 8D Sorry if he's a bit slow to open up.masaomiJanuary 18 2013, 09:23:45 UTC
[He's half expecting someone to come during visiting hours. Even after everything, Mikado is bound to show up, and maybe Anri will come, too. Kadota and the gang will probably drop in at some point, good people that they are. But right now? Now, no one can visit, which is why Masaomi let his guard down.
He feels kind of busted when the girl shows up at his door, but it's not a bad surprise, really. It catches him off guard, is all.]
Yeah... Yeah, I'm fine. I was just thinking.
[He forces a smile, and if the wattage isn't quite what it normally is... well, it's a valiant effort, anyway.]
Not much else you can do in a place like this, huh?
[He notices her IV, of course - and of course he wonder what's wrong with her. But, for now, he tries to restrain his curiosity.]
That's fine. :D Time is kinda-sorta-but-not-really on his side.drosyrenfysJanuary 18 2013, 13:26:13 UTC
[She smiles back at him, although on her end it's a little lackluster as well. She's staring at someone who looks like he needs her IV more, after all, and they're in a hospital. Dorothy wouldn't consider this the prime place to be.]
No, I guess not. My auntie Em brought me some books, but those get boring after a few hours.
[She hopes she's not intruding on his space, but she steps over the threshold of his room and stands against the frame. It takes the glare of the hall's fluorescent lights down a few notches, making it a little easier to both see him and think straight. And, while he might have his curiosity tucked away, she's going to ask anyway.]
XD Well, I'm hopeful, but he has his stubborn moments!masaomiJanuary 18 2013, 21:22:08 UTC
[Ah, books... If Masaomi had something good to read himself, he'd be happy to share with her; reading requires more concentration than he can spare right now. Mikado may bring him a magazine, he thinks. Karisawa and Yumasaki will undoubtedly bring manga when they visit, but... they're probably gonna wanna keep it for themselves. And that's fine by Masaomi. The thought's appreciated, anyway.]
Me? Ah...
[And this is already where he has to start deciding how much to tell her. Not much reason to lie yet, though - and she's a girl. She's got that on her side.]
I sort of got into a fight. Took a few hits too many.
[His head's bandaged, but it probably doesn't even look so bad. She should have seen him before they cleaned him up, though.]
That's okay, so does Dorothy. :DdrosyrenfysJanuary 19 2013, 02:52:36 UTC
Well, I hope you feel better. The doctors are good at making the pain go away.
[She lets go of the IV pole and nods, her smile sympathetic. While she's never actually been in a fight with anything besides a fence or a pig, she feels bad for him getting as beat up as he is.]
Me? Oh, well...
[Her smile turns sheepish, and she touches the back of her head with a small laugh.]
I was hit by a window during a twister. The headaches last a long time, so the doctors gave me something for it. You'll probably get them, too, if you got hit hard there.
[Don't ask him why a twister sounds more exciting than, you know, fighting a whole gang single-handedly - but it really does. Things flying around, and everything... That must have been a hell of a sight!
He'll get them, too, huh? At least they won't be able to bother him for long, then. Funny, that. He subconsciously imitates her, feeling at the back of his head. He got hit just about everywhere in the course of that fight. Probably there, too. He honestly can't remember the details.]
Well, I'm not feeling too bad, now. But they gave me all sorts of stuff, so...
[He won't even have to go off those meds, will he? A few days, a few weeks at most, and then -...
Dammit, he can't think about that. He's entertaining! And it's really nice to have someone to talk to who doesn't know him, doesn't ask all the questions about his past that he doesn't feel like answering.]
Come sit, if you want! I mean... You don't have to keep standing there.
[Funny how it somewhat wasn't the sight she was more worried about. She simply had wanted to see her auntie Em and her uncle Henry and make certain they were okay. It's too bad she did miss out on seeing much, particularly after that hard blow to the back of her head.
She smiles a little at him, a little awkward in her movement as she steps further into the room. It's strange not having those ruby slippers on her feet clicking beneath her heels as she walks towards the bed. There's a chair, however, so she won't have to impede on his personal space, and she immediately takes it up.]
Thank you. I haven't seen many other people my age here.
[Dorothy goes sheepish. She's never really been around many people her age to begin with. The farm was mostly her family, after all, but only Dorothy was under eighteen. She stands quickly and offers a polite curtsy and a small smile.]
[A curtsy! Wonderful. He'd offer a full, sweeping bow back, but that's kind of difficult to do right now. He makes an attempt at one, anyway, though he uses his arms to support himself, rather than swinging one dramatically.]
Kida Masaomi. Pleasure to meet you!
[And he full-out grins at her, because there's nothing like a little exaggerated behavior to distract yourself from your trouble.]
I haven't seen anyone else either. But then, I haven't really gotten around yet.
[He'd only left the room once, for a whole bunch of tests - and even then, he'd hardly left the bed. After the tests, it was deemed better that he didn't exert himself.]
Probably a good thing, right? Not many kids being here.
