that little verse <_< something utterly short but sweet? notveryfae February 2 2013, 00:07:33 UTC
[She doesn't have much in means of electronic entertainment. A computer of course and a radio. The popularity of radio shows has taken a dramatic up swing since the rationing of elecritiy a few decades back. That's what they got for using up so much oil.

Manda, however, is not used to listening to the radio show with a ... 'friend'. She blinks from her trance of listing to the story on the radio when she hears a soft rumble and then a head against her shoulder.]

[ He hadn't meant to doze off.

The story itself was actually quite compelling. However, he was tired and the closeness - which was innocent enough in and of itself - was inviting and before he knew it he was nodding off, head pillowed on Amanda's shoulder.

Snores lightly. ]

[It's a little weird, after living alone by choice for the last decade, to have someone falling asleep on her shoulder.

She gently pokes, half expecting him to snore at that. She can't help but smile, even if it's a touch unsure.

Brey, the kitten named after him, notices that something warm is asleep. He pads into the tiny living room where the other 'babies' are curled up near the fire.]

[ Loneliness, while decidedly overrated, has a way of sneaking past your defenses to the point where you become almost used to it. Even if it takes years to be comfortable sharing space with another person, his relief at having found her again far outweighs anything else.

He makes a disgruntled noise in response but does not wake. Continues snoring. ]

[ Being alone was very different than being lonely. Lonely had been the first five years. Being alone had been the rest because she had become comfortable. She had enjoyed the feeling she could wander without a court or having to be kept tied down. This is almost alien. If it wasn't for the babies...

She rises, making sure she can set his head down on the couch to turn off the radio and blow out the reading lamp. She pauses at the sleeping figure on her couch with the intention of draping the blanket over his form. She notices her couch is notably wide.

Brey looks at her with large blue eyes. Almost hopeful.

She feels like an idiot as she attempt to wiggle on the couch again, to see if there's enough room.]
