Arthur hadn't planned anything big for his birthday. Not that he ever did, really. Usually he would spend it alone (this was before Ariadne came along) or with Dom and they'd go out for drinks and that was it. No fanfare, no cake and birthday candles, and no presents. Except, of course, Dom paying for his drinks.

Ariadne always had a tough time figuring out what to get Arthur for his birthday - not necessarily because he was difficult to shop for (though that was sometimes part of it), but a lot of it was simply because she wanted to give him everything, and if she did that, well, she'd run out of things to give him for next year.
This year, she'd settled on a new pair of cuff links - custom-made, they were little sterling silver "A"s, simple, elegant and masculine.
She also cooked dinner, baked a small cake, and was wearing his favorite garter belt underneath her skirt.

Arthur came in through the front door, setting his briefcase by the door and toeing off his shoes. “Ariadne?” He called out. He’d just come back from a meeting with a potential client.
"Just a minute!" Ariadne called from the kitchen, and sure enough, a moment later she was walking out, carrying his birthday cake, with 'Happy Birthday Arthur' on it in blue icing to match the blue of her skirt.
"Happy birthday to you," she started to sing, grinning.
He couldn’t help but grin after such an exhausting meeting. Arthur stood there as she finished singing Happy Birthday. At the end, he blew out all the candles. “Thank you.”
