Charles placed a warm hand over Erik's arm, concern burning to the front, showing clearly in his eyes. He felt the confusion within Erik's mind and tried to ease it, to soften the strain on his mind. Calm your mind, Erik.

"You've lost a lot of your memories, Erik. I need you to try and remain calm. I will do what I can to-" He paused. A part of him wondered if it was, perhaps, a small blessing that Erik did not remember certain things. He had to pause, to wonder if it had not been another telepath after all, but Erik's mind protecting itself. He would have to tread so carefully. "-To help you remember... Just try to remain calm. You remember me, yes? You know my name."

"You're Charles Xavier."

He pauses for a moment. The man had told him who he was though. Right? However there were parts of his mind that remembered the man.

"I can feel you up here..." He says tapping his temple. "It's comforting."

[ooc: Any thread that doesn't get answered bb, it's because it's asking if I'm human. Just so you don't think I'm ignoring it. I'm not, just tired of the whole being asked if I'm human or not crap.]

Comforting. That was new. It had been a long time since touching Erik's mind had not been met with distrust and harsh edges. Charles let his mind sift through Erik's gently, tracing through his thoughts with calm warmth. Neither of which he really felt.

"Thank you, my friend." Either his attempts were working or Erik was keeping his own mind calm, possibly both. Whatever the case, Charles was grateful as he sought out the memory center of Erik's mind, easing his was to the hippocampus with caution. Closing his eyes and falling silent, he searched for blocked memories, allowed himself to fall dangerously deep into Erik's mind.

[ooc: Not a problem]

"For what?"

He wasn't too entirely sure what it was he was being thanked for. In fact he's pretty sure the man before him has no reason to thank him. Then again... there was so much there that he's not sure what is right and what is wrong. He just leans back in his chair and relaxes, letting Charles do what he needed to. Whatever that was.

Charles tread carefully through Erik's memories, attempting to determine what was merely locked away versus what had been lost completely. It was no simple task, even for a telepath like him.

"I'm going to try and bring some of them back, bear with me." He only spoke to break the silence as he cautiously unraveled a memory, suppressed by a force other than himself. This had the potential to go badly, if he failed to truly grasp which memories were hidden in pain and which had merely been hidden. It was the fully deleted memories that would be a problem.

It felt weird to have the other man inside of his head. Far too odd for his liking but he just lets him slip further into his mind. "Nothing bad, right?" Because that bothered the hell out of him. Those eyes close but the moment that memory slips forth, they snap open. His breathing coming out a bit labored. How could... "Stop," he growls. Unfortunately the first memory to come forth was of Shaw killing his mother.

Charles froze, the memory revealed to him too late. Realization hit him with a fresh wave of the agony and rage he had glimpsed before and he cruelly shoved it back. Left those emotions hollow as he shrouded the memory in heavy blocks to deal with later and dragged from his own mind the one he had pulled from Erik once before. That bright center of his memories. Trying to soothe away the pain. He refused to back out of Erik's mind. Not now. Not with that being the only thing he had succeeded in dredging up.

Erik wasn't sure what the hell the other man did. All he knew was something had... "Charles?" He wanted the other to just stop. If this was how the memories were going to reveal themselves then he didn't want them. Though the newest memory has him shutting his eyes, body relaxing despite the tears slipping down his cheeks. At least they weren't tears of pain.

"I'm sorry, my friend." Charles reached up, hands on either side of Erik's face, gentle and apologetic as he wiped away tears carefully. Concern coloured his azure eyes as they studied Erik's expression. He withdrew from Erik's mind. It was too risky, too potentially hazardous to both their mental stabilities to play a game of matching with the memories in Erik's head. Better to leave it and hope for the best, than destroy him trying to bring it back by force.

"Are you all right, Erik?"

He felt those hands on his face, felt himself just... relax that much more. Those fingers brushing away his tears were smooth and comfortable. "I'll be fine, Charles." Though he doesn't know what it was that the other man had done. "I'll be fine." He wasn't sure if he was trying to convince himself or Charles.

"I will not try to bring your memories back, not like this." It would be too much, too painful. He could not tamper with Erik's mind, opening and shutting doors until he found the 'right' memories. The ones he desired to bring forward. He could open all of them, but then, that much, all at once, it could ruin Erik. Shatter his mind. No. He would leave them be for now.

He sighed and rested his forehead against Erik's. He wanted to shelter Erik from the pain of reliving it all again. Could he do that? It was wrong, certainly, but so much kinder.

"We will find a different way."

"I appreciate that, Charles," he states simply and softly watching the telepath before him. He closes his eyes and a big part of him relaxes.

"I doubt that we will."

Unless Charles took away all the bad memories permanently and left only the good. Before Shaw and after.

If that was the only way Charles could find to make it work, he would. He would carry the guilt for erasing Erik's memories over forcing him to go through any of that again. He didn't care how selfish it might have been.

"We will, Erik. I have no doubt of that. Trust me." He smiled in false reassurance, relieved that, if nothing else, Erik seemed to trust him still. He clung to that trust almost desperately. "How are you feeling, my friend?"

Erik trusted Charles with his life and truthfully had no reason not to. Even after dragging out that memory of Shaw killing his mother.

"My head hurts."
