...Fuck[That seems the only reasonable response to the tiny pink "plus" on the pregnancy test. Shura chucks it in the bathroom waste bin and perches on the side of the bathtub. She holds her head in her hands, focusing for the moment on just breathing

[ Had Rin been awake he might have been curious as to why Shura had taken so long to come out of the bathroom when he'd made lunch for them earlier. In the time it took her to resurface though he'd rather promptly fallen asleep on the couch in the living room.

It would take more than her first call to get him up.]

[Shura glances down the opposite end of the hall before starting towards the kitchen. She spots Rin on the couch and walks over. It figures he'd start napping.]

Rin...

[She takes hold of his nose to interrupt his breathing for a moment.]

Wake up!

[Hey hey she took her time in there, he may as well use it to catch up on the sleep his body desperately needed after the last few days he spent out on a mission. Paladin's still have to do field work y'know.

But after about thirty seconds without air his body forces him awake, triggering the young man to gasp loudly and sit up. ]

I'm up I'm up!! [ Swatting her hand away and sending a red faced frown.]

What do you want??

[Normally Shura would at least smirk at his behavior. Today, she sits down beside him with a mix of anxiety and trepidation.]

I'm pregnant.

[No use mincing words here. If there's one thing their relationship has, its bold-faced bluntness honesty.]

[ They had an interesting relationship alright if this was the way she'd wake him up most mornings. Who needs a good morning kiss when you can get all of your senses kicked into gear in a matter of thirty seconds.]

[ Scratch that, his brain was dead again.]

[Just repeating herself feels surreal.]

I used a test to make sure. It ain't just my body skipping a cycle.

But aren't you on the pill or something??

[ A child was never something they'd talked about seriously past the "we're not ready" they decided on months before they got married. ]

Yeah, I am. Load of good it did too.

[Shura doesn't want a child, making the shock of the situation that much more traumatic.]

...[A nervous... happy laugh comes from the exorcist. ]

[His laugh feels like a knife twisted in her heart, an unexpected pang of guilt and conflict.]

I don't know if I wanna be.

[Even just that much feels hard for her to get out in the face of what she knows is his enthusiasm.]

[ His smile fades. ]

You said that before... but looks like we don't got much of a choice here now anymore.

It's only been two weeks--

[But the protest dies on her lips. She can't bring herself to kill what will become their child, as much as she detests the idea of bearing it. She loves Rin too much.

Shura sighs and holds her head in her hands.]

I ain't cut out for parenting.

[ It's a good thing she didn't complete the sentence... because it would have broken him.]

What's that mean? You're acting like you're all alone on this.

You ain't the one that'll be gettin' fat, or having to withdraw from active field work, or feeding the damn thing once it's born.

[She lifts her head to look at Rin, conflict and even terror plain on her face.]

I don't wanna go through any of that shit.

... I'm sorry. [ Rin will reach over and pull Shura into an embrace. He didn't know how to console her, because she was right. He could never go through what she would. ]

Can't you put babies on formula's though?
