taking this in a slightly different direction~strikingblueOctober 15 2011, 21:19:06 UTC
[Congrats, you now have a crying BLUE baby on your hands...that happens to have pointed ears and a tail, not to mention the bright yellow eyes. Someone must have abandoned him]
wheee mutants are never normal anyway muahahaasyluminmymindOctober 15 2011, 21:25:33 UTC
[What a little darling! Charles picks him up and cuddles the poor thing close to his chest. It's hard to tell if the rocking is intentional to sooth the baby, or just one of Charles's ticks. He sends a soft, non-verbal feeling of affection and safety.]
[The feeling of safety is so new and surprising, little Kurt stops crying almost immediately, staring up at Charles with wide yellow eyes as if not sure what to do next]
[He knows babies need to be fed, but he's not quite sure what they need to be fed. Still, it's easy enough for him to start walking down the street from the old church he'd slept in, where Kurt was left, letting the people passing by see a frazzled and clueless young man and a perfectly adorable - peachpinkchurchillnormal - baby, skimming their minds for the well-meaning advice and opinions everyone always has about other people's children.]
[the overall opinion is where is the mother? but it's only a passing thought for the minds he passes. Kurt settles a bit now that he's being held, he's been abandoned for who knows how long. There is a pinch in his stomach that's bothering him and his face starts to screw up into a frown that might turn into crying pretty soon]
[She's clearly recovering from labor, Charles lets them realize. Very...tiring, making new people. Somebody wonders if the kid has a pacifier, and Charles shifts his hands around to rest the tip of his pinky on Kurt's little mouth to suck on until they can get - milk? Oh, special milk. Formula. Alright.]
[the baby sucks on Charles' finger hungrily, too young to have teeth yet. He takes the finger with both of his hands to keep it close, him only having three fingers on each hand]
[Oooo singing....that's new too. Kurt likes that, watching him as he sucks at the finger. Even if he's still hungry, this is distracting enough that he's not thinking about it]
[Of course, the singing prompts a few more looks from passersby]
[Does anybody remember the next line? Anybody? Apparently not. Charles is a little tempted to give them all earworms, but he's in a good mood. He comes up behind a type-A businessman arguing loudly with the sales clerk.]
Excuse me.
[It's rough, but Charles knocks a chunk out of the man's anger issues. You don't need to be the loudest and strongest to be safe. It might even be enough to help the man save his marriage. He splutters that he doesn't work here, but his grumbles about the incompetence of the actual staff peter off.]
I know, very sorry. Please.
[Charles presses on the man's mind, and he mutters a brusque apology to the dumbfounded sales clerk before marching off down an aisle in a take-charge way, assuming Charles will follow.]
[Kurt stops nomming Charles' finger at the display of anger, feeling distinctly uncomfortable. But he stays quiet for now, safe with Charles...safe is good]
[Mr. Dale Andrews Smith loads up a baby bag with formula and diapers and pacifiers and another blanket, quietly regretting not spending more time with Amanda and Claire when they were little. They're teenagers now and won't talk to him and he doesn't understand them at all. He adds in snacks for Charles after a bit more discrete mental nudging, and pays for everything. He runs a hand through his hair and shows Charles how to hold the bottle correctly, numbly flabbergasted at his own outburst of charity. Charles smiles and shoos him home to apologize to his wife.]
