Nyota Uhura | Star Trek (2009) nthngicanthndle November 1 2011, 22:02:47 UTC
I rolled a 4, care to play? Canon or AU is fine with me. sciomedicus November 2 2011, 05:04:13 UTC
Okay, here we go... And prose seemed easier, so... nthngicanthndle November 2 2011, 05:49:57 UTC
Uhura wasn't used to being the helpless one. She wasn't used to being weak. There was only so much faking it she could do those when she was supposed to be not only a xenoliguist, but training to be a comms officer. The young Starfleet Academy student had lost her hearing and it was sending her into a panic.

There were few people she could trust. Maybe Gaila would understand, but she wasn't going to risk it. She wasn't ready to go to her teachers yet either. She barely knew McCoy, but there was just something about him. Something that had her knocking on his door in the middle of the night and hoping that he wouldn't have company.

She could trust him, right? He was a doctor. He'd help. He had to help.

That's fine. I enjoy prose as I find it easier to work with. sciomedicus November 2 2011, 06:19:44 UTC
Leonard was ensconced at the sideboard, pushed in close to a desk that was cluttered with data files and PADDs filled to bursting with texts and articles all detailing the latest in medical technology, procedure, and interpersonal exchange in the field in regards to alien verses human biology. Medicine was easy, getting it to work between the species was not which was what had Leonard still burning the midnight oil ( ... )

Uhura could tell he was asking something. She was deaf, not blind. She saw the movement of his lips but she just let out a growl in frustration when she couldn't quite work out what it was he had asked. She just pointed at her ears, the frustration clear and plain on her face until she let her expression slip into one of pleading.

"Dr McCoy, I need your help." She couldn't hear her own words, only hoping that she wasn't shouting them. The cadet pointed to her ears again. "I've gone deaf."

It was on the tip of his tongue to make a snide comment clinic hours and directional sense except he'd seen the play of emotions, the subtle shift of muscles and micro-expressions, that immediately put him on edge. Of course it helped that the woman was articulate and wasted no time in telling him her problem ( ... )

Uhura hadn't flinched at having the doctor lower himself to establish eye contact. The relief flooded through her when she realised he wasn't going to turn her away and try and fob her off. She knew she'd taken a risk in disturbing him so late in the day, but apparently the gamble was going to pay off ( ... )

She hadn't fought him, which he was grateful, and he directed her towards the desk. He quickly pulled the chair out and swung it around, the look and quick tilt of his head indicated that he wanted her to sit. Leonard didn't wait to see if she complied, instead moving quickly to the standing wardrobe off the ensuite where he kept a tricorder and basic diagnostic kit. He placed them both on the desk when he walked back over and started to sift through the PADDs he'd abandoned earlier ( ... )
