[The woman in question looks up from the clipboard she had been writing on. She looks a little tired, but nothing horrible. She offers him a small smile before going back to what she was doing.]
[She looked up to him, surprised and serious at the same time, but over all, she was worried. She did as he asked, putting the clipboard away on the desk behind her.]
[He puts his hands in his pockets so she doesn't see his hands clenching into fists. He's outwardly calm though.]
I enjoy your company greatly, but I think the best thing for us would be to keep things professional.
["Keep you at a distance so that those out there gunning for him don't put you in the crosshairs" is more like it. However, he tells her that, she'll suspect something's up.]
[Not exactly? He wasn't telling her the truth, probably in order to protect her from something along the lines of "I'm sick of you", but she would much rather the truth... Sort of.]
What does this have to do with the past?
[He left that work behind him. Why was he saying all of this? It didn't make sense.]
Please don't ask me to explain, Holiday. I did a lot of things I'm not proud of back then, and unfortunately not everyone involved is as willing to move past it.

[Taking a deep breath, he enters the mostly-dark laboratory.]
Holiday?

Hey. What's up?

[He was going to do all right. She'd probably be angry but it was ofr her own good.]

What's wrong?

It's not working out between us. I'm sorry.

They... aren't?
[She thought he was fine with the way things were going. Was it too fast? Too slow? Was it her?]
Wh- What happened? What did I-?
[What did she do wrong? What about her did he not like so much?]

It's not your fault. It's mine.

[No. She did not like where this seemed to go. She knew that they had something. This was too random.]
Professional? Are you breaking up with me in favor of work?

[He tries to come up with a valid excuse but his efforts come up empty. Looks like part of the truth it is.] It's because of what I used to do.

You're in trouble...
[And then something else landed.]
You're doing this to protect me?
[No. She is not a fan of this plan of yours. It is not a good plan.]

I've always been a target, Holiday. I don't want to make you one as well.

You are doing this to protect me! I can more than handle my own, Six. You've seen that for yourself multiple times.
[She even saved YOU a decent number of times.]
[Unless this was some horrible cover up for whatever really bothered him.]

These aren't rampaging EVOs, doctor. These are human beings with axes to grind. Anyone who gets in their way is simply collateral damage.
[And he knows this because he used to have that same mindset.]
