KISS or TELL
1. There's mistletoe everywhere. Everywhere. Your character is underneath it now.

2. Once underneath it with someone else (a replier) they are stuck in
place until they do one of two things: kiss or tell someone a secret
about themselves.

3. It doesn't matter who tells their secret, initiates the kiss, etc.
Whenever it happens they're 'free ( Read more... )

He stared at the device in his hand. "Right, now---we're going to have to keep navigating this corridor...I wonder why there aren't any traps, though."

"I dunno, it's really weird," She pushed up on her toes to look over his shoulder at the device. "You'd think it'd be a bit more--"

She paused, furrowing her brow.

"--is that mistletoe?"

He looked up, only distracted from his device for a second. "Yeah, I think so."

He held the device out and gave a nod. "Okay, fantastic. Got a lock on the crystal. This way."

He took a step forward, then found that there was nowhere else to move to. He held a hand out, and a force field rippled around them.

"Oh, brilliant. What've you done this time?" She leaned forward, reaching out a hand to press against the containment waves. It was like touching a wall of plasma.

With a frown, she turned to go back the way they came, stopped by a matching wall of pale-blue.

"Thoughts?"

"What've I done? What do you mean, what've I done?" he said, incredulous. He glanced back as she hit the other wall. Trapped. Brilliant.

He let out an irritated sigh. "Right, so it's---"

Before he could continue, he was interrupted by a cheery Christmas jingle, and the sudden appearance of a holiday-themed hologram in front of them. Something for the tourists, he supposed. But unnerving, nonetheless.

"Welcome to your holiday-themed Kiss-or-Tell!" It sing-songed.

"You heard me, this is your fault, somehow, I'm sure of it." She turned to face him, mouth still open to rebuff any denial he was about to spew out, when a too-cheery, slightly creepy hologram projected itself before them.

Her mouth dropped open at the sharp-noted hardly melodic jingle. What was it about aliens and the future that just made everything that was supposed to be innocent entirely skewed and a wee-bit creepy?

Kiss-or-Tell?

"Oh, bugger."

"What the hell are they on about?" he barked. "Kiss or tell?"

"Once under the mistletoe, you must either kiss each other, or one of you must tell a secret about themselves. It does not matter who initiates the kiss or secret! Merry Hallowstakmas!"

The Doctor blinked as the screen went out, then looked down the hallway. The entire hallway was absolutely covered in mistletoe, each with a blinking red light attached to the white bulbs.

"This has got to be the stupidest trap setup I've ever seen."

Oh, good. Just... good. This was brilliant. This is exactly what she wanted to do. 'I'm secretly disgusted by raisins, d'you fancy a snog?' Somehow, she didn't think the former would count.

"Hallowstakmas? That is... it's November, there isn't even a holiday..." She frowned, glancing up at the mistletoe above them projecting the rounded containment dome.

"Can't you just, I dunno, sonic it off? That's gonna take ages."

"Don't ask me, it's not my mythology." He replied. He reached out after Rose's "confession", but the force field still stood up. He pulled out the sonic and gave it a wave at the device, but still nothing.

"Deadlock seal," he said. "And that's the only route to the crystal. Looks like we're going to have to do this the hard way."

He looked down at Rose and took a deep breath, then carefully leaned down his head and whispered.

"I used to want to be a train conductor as a child."

She couldn't help it, she really couldn't stifle the incredulous laughter that jumped out of her throat. She pulled back to look at him, not just a bit amused.

"You're so fibbing. Come on." Judging by the fact that the containment field faltered and released, he must have been telling the truth. "That is so... That's brilliant, that's what that is."

She shook her head, stepping forward into the path of the next set of mistletoe. Most of the secrets she kept from him involved his future. What on Earth could she tell him?

"Right, next one. And this one's your turn," he said, giving her a point. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad. Most of the things he kept from Rose, though, they were serious. Deadly serious. He wouldn't think about those, he'd push those to the back of his mind and think about the less-than-serious ones.

The light above the next bunch of mistletoe appeared, and he turned to Rose.

"We're trading off, then? That's fair." As long as it stayed as simple as this, they could carry on trading inconsequential secrets and be at the end of the hall in no time. Maybe a short delay in the plans, but they had plenty of time. The crystal wasn't going anywhere.

He wanted to be a train conductor, did he? She took inspiration from that, scrunching up her face as she thought.

"When I was eleven, me and Shareen would shoplift lip gloss 'cause we couldn't afford it."

The Doctor gave a nod as the light above them went out, and he stepped forward until the next one came on.

"That's all right," he said. "The Master and I used to steal the Matrix answer sheets to all of the exams. Usually we'd return them, with more than a few corrections penciled in."

The light above him then went out, and he gave Rose a little grin. "See, told you this would be easy."

She looked a combination of surprised and impressed. "That's highly frowned upon, Doctor."

He was a right little rebel, wasn't he? Actually, she might not mind this so much. It was nice, learning little bits about him that she hadn't known before.

She stepped into the next light with him.

"I used to write down answers on my shoes while I was in secondary school. That's why I always sit cross-legged. It's habit."

The light went off, and he took a step forward. "Ooooh, that's clever. I also used to sneak in speaking rules when I didn't feel like studying."

That was a proper, honest truth, but the light didn't go off. He reached out, and the force field was still in place.

"Strange," he said. "Must've been too similar to the last truth, then."

She actually moved to take a step forward after his statement, and frowned when the light didn't cut off. She poked the force-field, then turned her gaze back to him with a slight frown.

Too similar to the last secret, or this test wasn't going to be as easy as they originally thought.

"Must've been. Give us another one, then, it's still your go."
