It's international book week. The rules: Grab the closest book to you, turn to page 52, post the 5th sentence. Don't mention the title. Copy the rules as part of your post.

"He urged that the new building be limited in height so as not to obstruct the view."

It's hard to tell if that's the 5th sentence because the 3rd and 4th are in quotes with a "he said" before them and have ellipses. Close enough.

I count quotes as one sentence, no matter how much is in them.

"The only drawback was the strain on your eyes when you had to hunt for something or someone, because with everything equally colorless no form could be clearly distinguished from what was behind it or around it."

Or, if you count the file on my computer as being closest:

"Brand moved along the parapet and leaned over a crenel for a better view of the environs."

My sentence: "Their strange, mute similarity to a human body--mine, actually, as they 'fit'--clarified the whole suckhole immunity question, as I thought about it."

Are you the one who told me about this book years ago? I knew somebody had. A partner lent it to me, and made me cry, when nothing else he's done to me has yet.

It might have been me. I read it for the first time in first grade, and many times since; I know it influenced me.
