somehow in my head, i've got you associated with the decemberists - probably because there's a similarly lyrical quality in what you both write? something like that. and while a lot of their songs are kind of epic and sweeping and having to deal with historical figures and whatnot, there are some that are simpler and a little more personal, like "red right ankle":
