the seeming curvature of the Universe is an illusion. The Universe is really as straight as a string, except for a loop at either end. The loops are microscopic.

one tip of the string is forever vanishing. its neighboring loop is forever retreating from extinction. the other end is forever growing. its neighboring loop is forever pursuing ( Read more... )

it's an amazing book... it's kind of like short stories, only they are really all vonnegut's opinions.

it's really hard to find though, i totally scored and got it at valuevillage for $.69!

God bless value village! Some of my fondest memories (and most of my non-uniform clothes) come from there.

Hmmmm, there are many ways to simplify geometry of the universe so that we can try to comprehend what uncomprehendable things are going on but a string is way too simplified of an example. He seems to be taking brilliant theorems and oversimplifying them to sound intelligent. Booerns

No one really knows what happened before the Big Bang but this doesn't imply that nothing existed before it. In fact I have a theory that our universe is in a cycle where the universe expands to critical mass then shrinks back into a singular point (alike to a black hole) and the Big Bang happens again and again...This wouldn't imply anything about nothingness at all.

Sorry, I'm a geek. We also seem to have friends in common so I thoughts I'd comment and see if you're up for being on my friend's list? Peace, Erica
