Hahaha omg. Sometimes, comics fandom is pretty okay. WITNESS. (In the likely event that Wikipedia corrects this, I've uploaded a screencap.)

Here are some things you ought to know:

    1) Joe Quesada is the current editor-in-chief at Marvel comics. He is a douchebag. This is a fact ( Read more... )

the idiot who ruined spider-man

Ah, American comics. The last bastion for bitter men who hate women for having breasts and sleeping with with people who are not them. CLEARLY THEY ARE THE SOURCE OF ALL EVILS IN THE WORLD. I hate this industry, I really do.

Well, you know how those womenfolk can get. Being all womanly and ... stuff. Wrecking lives with their ... vaginas?

Anyway, I really respect these guys for sticking true to their beliefs that men are men and ladies should be held responsible for everything that goes wrong ever.

The sad part is Joe Q is still leagues and miles better than the DC head, Didio, when it comes to treating women with respect. Because even if he hates the Peter/MJ marriage he'll allow their relationship in Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, Ultimate Spider-Man, etc. Whereas Didio has 52 earths and continues to try and kill every single incarnation of happiness there.

You're very fortunate! Between Dan "Kill Them All" Didio (editor-in-chief at DC) and Joe Quesada, I for one am entirely prepared to welcome new comic book overlords.

It's just...so pointless to have their marriage get retconned like this. What the hell.

There's just something about them being together, the way they play off each other and have helped one and other grow. It's sad that everything went down the tubes in the snap of Joe Q's fingers.

Besides, didn't Joe himself say that ruining the marriage (by killing MJ or having them divorce/separate) would probably 'make it worse'?

I never much had an opinion about JMS, other than I knew he was talented, but the silver lining of this massive dark cloud is that he's coming across as an intensely polite, respectful guy. I wouldn't be able to be so kind in the face of this discourtesy.

Like, I kind of see Quesada's point? Peter might have been married off a bit too quickly. He's pretty young, after all. But for all of that, I love MJ. I love Peter/MJ, and how despite all the mess they've been through, they've been consistently deeply in love. Yeah, we all know porn is awesome and all, but the devotion Peter has for MJ has absolutely rung true for my entire run as a comic book fan (over 15 years). This decision was just shameful.

Oh, I agree. He's really shone in this mess and I'm looking forward to checking out Babylon 5 even moreso than I had before.

I worry that I can't address this without bias. Objectively I know his marriage isn't one of the necessary components of the Spider-Man mythos, but the first two things I learned about him when I was wee were a) he is a dude who is like a spider and b) he is married to Mary Jane Watson and has been for the duration of my entire life. So for me Mary Jane and his relationship with her were fundamental building blocks in my understanding of the Spider-Man mythos, and it would be impossible to ignore how this has influenced me and how it manifests in my instinctive response to Joe Quesada's viewpoint ( ... )

The funny thing is that Quesada's said that divorce, annulment, or death of MJ would be worse than having Peter be single. I'm so glad he found a HAPPY solution. Jeezum crow.

I suppose if the marriage never happened, you can't ruin it with a divorce or character death. Or something. I'm not sure how this works, but at least this way no one's upset, right? I mean, except for Mary Jane, who remembers everything, and the fans, who never forgive and never forget.

Evidently marriage prevents Peter Parker from doing what bachelors do, that is, have sex and download porn.

It was this reason that made me burst out laughing. Oh yes! Because married people don't have sex and watch porn!

Of course they don't! My parents certainly never had sex. Only ... huh. Something's fishy about this line of reasoning. If I could just -- I can almost picture it. It's right on the tip of my tongue. It -- no, no. I lost it.
