I have the exact same problem with bookstores. It gets even worse when I go to Amazon.

Must. Own. EVERYTHING. And stay away from the recommendations page. Apparently, the book I adored as a wee child was just the first of a series.

Ahhhhhh, Amazon! I spend half my lunch breaks reading customer-contributed lists and guides, no lie.

Apparently, the book I adored as a wee child was just the first of a series.

!!! That is both exciting and alarming! The important question is, how many books are in the series?

Oh, god. They have EVERYTHING. I mean, this novel I loved in elementary school(The War Between the Pitiful Teachers and the Splendid Kids) turned out to be a trilogy, and there's like five different Jillian Jiggs books including one that tells how to make your own stuffed pig which I now want to do . . .

The Orphan's Tales! Mem! I shower you with love and adoration! However, I'm afraid if you don't love the first book the adoration must be returned.

On a more serious note, Valente is my new favorite female author. I'm fairly sure I ship Valente/keyboard at this point in time, which is in no way creepy. In the Night Garden was my favorite book of all 2007! It is gorgeous and rich and amazing. I actually vomited a whole paragraph of words about it in December and then immediately started badgering people to read it. DID YOU READ MY MIND?

I'm only halfway through In The Night Garden, but it's absolutely fabulous. Also, Jane Austen = ♥ of course - I got a copy of Emma last week. ...still need to read it though.

NEW PLAN: Read In the Night Garden, *then* sleep for three days. Thank you!

Emma is SO MUCH FUN, though occasionally it triggers my embarrassment squick (which is obvs. a very personal response that should have no bearing on anyone else's enjoyment of the book, ahaha). But, um, yes. It's loads of fun and I think you'll like it lots! Ignore me; I talk too much.

I haven't read any of the ones on your list, except, obviously, the Jane Austens. My copy of Pride & Prejudice is falling apart. Must be time to buy a new, pretty version!

It's always time to buy a new, pretty version of a Jane Austen novel. Fact!

Ooh, In the Night Garden! I've been lurking on her blog since Labrynth (also known as the word I can't spell) and I would love to see your thoughts on that book. On the plus side, I've heard it's really excellently good!

(also known as the word I can't spell) Hee! (Sorry.)

That's excellent news! Everyone who's commented agrees: In the Night Garden is good times. So, yes! I'm excited. *g*

(Thank you for taking the time to comment on this, by the way! I've messed up this reply something awful, but I really am grateful.)
