I need your help: is it a birthday card?

Mar 24, 2009 17:37

Today I was at the new Russian shop around the corner from work. Our help who makes the coffee for us in the morning is from Russia. It's only a few weeks until her birthday and since time's always running so fast I bought a card for her. I could read "Elena" on the front and I can "read" what's written inside - but I don't understand a word *lol ( Read more... )

help wanted, joke

Maybe you should ask megan-moonlight. She's Polish, but maybe she knows what this card means. ;)

In case everything fails I'll ask my friend Silvi if she can ask one of her Russian friends to tell her (me) what it means :-)
I know Silvi and I read comments from her friends too, so I feel closer to them as to megan_moonlight.
Thank you anyway!

It wasn't a bad idea. And I'm grateful for your attempt to help!

From what I can make out of it, it isn't. Because the actual word for birthday is not in it - that doesn't mean it is impossible for it to be a birthday card nevertheless, but it's a little less likely.

If I can't use the card it's no big loss: I paid 99 Eurocent. That's money too, but it's like forgetting to take the Euro out of the shopping cart ;-)

That's a point.

I only can tell you, that I think (but I am really really really not sure, because I sucked at russian and my last lesson was 10 years ago) it's a pretty worshipping text. And in the end there are two different forms of the verb "love" - so yeah, it might be a supersweet card nevertheless.

I sent the text through a translater and that is what it gave me:
Dir, solcher eigenartig, schön, immer огарователъной und nett, wünsche ich уделвителъного сгастъя, zu leben froh, gern zu haben und beliebt zu sein.

So I was right that it is a pretty nice text nevertheless. :)

Asking you was my "Plan B" and now I have to do so. I just opened the entry so that she can see it. If she has the mind to help. It's _your_ friend and perhaps she don't like to "work for strangers".
Thank you so much for your offer to help me!

the card adreses to a girl and says: "I wish you, so special and beautiful, always chsrming and nice, to live happily, to love and be loved"

but I should mention that in the first line letter "к" is written in Latin twice.

The card is from "prazdnik" and their website is "pradzdnik.com.ru" - that made me believe that it is a "real russian card"... I don't understand why they did that mistake with the "к" :-/
Well, anyway, it sounds nice. A bit too nice for my taste but perhaps Russian people like it that way? Would you like it to get such a card for your birthday? Elena _is_ special and always charming and nice so it would fit!
You are very nice too - not everyone would have helped a "stranger" ♥

I was glad to help)

our cards tend to have text inside, a little poem or just some nice words, so it's ok I think

I forgot to say that the lines are rhymed here

We are "forced" to come up with something nice for ourselves :-/
And man, some people really suck at that *ggg*
