ONORATA-VERSE BACKGROUND: Since sticking with canon is always a plus, there’s going to be part of Kairi’s life that she doesn’t remember-whether or not she ends up remembering it at all is up to any events that maybe cause her to remember, I’m guessing. Otherwise, it’s just out there for OOC knowledge.
What Kairi doesn’t know: She was born to the Matsuda family, a very loving group of people in Japan. Though, being so young, she had no idea of the problems her parents were going through. The family soon went into debt, and they fled to east to Stuttgart, Germany to live, learning German, and changing their names completely to avoid being followed (though it probably wouldn’t have done much considering their appearance) so then Kairi was known as Adal Herz by the age of three.
It was then that her parents had given her a cream, teardrop-shaped pendant, asking her to never forget them and how much they loved her. Adal didn’t understand that, either, so little did she know that the family’s protective measures failed to work. By the time she was six, her mother had been killed and her father had taken their other daughter when they tried to leave Germany again after leaving Adal in a family friend’s care.
After the family friend found out about their deaths, she told Adal to pack up only the necessities and that they were leaving someplace else. They ended up going south through Austria (to avoid crossing Lake Constance for Adal’s safety) and Switzerland, to Italy. Though once they arrived at Italy’s border, that friend was killed and the last thing Adal heard from her was “Kairi, gehen!” Confused by the name she barely recognized, she stared in fear, unable to move. She was then taken by the authorities and ended up passing out in fear.
What Kairi does know: She woke up in Reggio Calabria, not remembering anything at all, and clothed in a simple dress and the pendant she was given. Looking at the pendant in curiosity, she saw something engraved in the metal bit that held the pendant to the chain-the name ‘Kairi’. Assuming that was her name, she got up and began to search for someone who could help her or let her stay with him or her. Eventually, Kairi found a nice young woman who took her in, gave her the last name of Russo (different from their own Carassi, mostly to protect her), taught her Italian (since they found she could only speak Japanese and German), and even taught her the basics she needed to know and more (up to today’s 10th grade level, at least-basic knowledge in algebra, geometry, Italy’s history and biology and physics. Just nothing fancy.).
She was given a birthday, since she couldn’t remember her own, and it was the day that her new family had found her on the streets August 5th. That family had assumed that she was around seven years of age when they found her, as well-that’s the only reason she knows how old she is.
However, around the time of Kairi’s 15th birthday, she had gone out with a few friends, just to hang out. When she returned, her family disappeared without a trace. Forced to live on her own after that, she struggled to take care of herself, but somehow managed it. Now at the age of 18, she’s willing to do anything to be able to support herself.
