History:
Right this way

Personality:
Axel is an interesting fellow. At the point in canon where he’ll be from in Oriens, he lacks much of what he discovers throughout the course of 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts II. Axel is the Organization’s assassin, not that many of them know that. He works directly for Saix, number VII in the Organization and second in command under Xemnas, the Superior. He and Saix joined the Organization together and shared a friendship that stems from when they were Somebodies. Isa and Lea shared a purpose back in Hollow Bastion, and they share a purpose in the Organization, to recover their hearts and return to their lives as Somebodies.

Axel is a Nobody, a person without a heart. Sometimes they are not even defined as people, but as the hollow shells of who they used to be. They remember feeling, but cannot feel anything beyond the physical themselves. The line between emotions and physical feelings can blur, but they can never cross it completely. Or so they think.

Axel keeps a lot of things to himself, his motives, his true thoughts about a person, or Nobody. He also hides the fact that he can feel. Or is beginning to. Things make him happy, or...thing. Singular. Or Plural, for two of them: Roxas and Sora. They share a heart and Axel is connected with them. At the point I’m taking him from, they seem to be rubbing off on him, waking up the emotions he hasn’t felt in over 2 years.

Back to who Axel is, what he’s like: Axel is, in a word, a bastard. Not the literal type, but the type who will mess with you for fun, to get a reaction, or just because he feels like it. Or at least it seems that way. It takes true fathoming to find understandable motivations behind a lot of the things he does without knowing the whole story, and sometimes even then. He’s sarcastic and rarely does he truly mean a word he says. When he’s around Organization members other than Saix and Roxas, he’s not himself, he’s a parody. His ego expands, encompassing the entirety of Castle Oblivion. His outward persona is comical, even adding a slight accent which makes him sound pretentious, yet also like he rules the place and knows it. Which he does, though his fellow Organization members are unaware of that, but become more and more so as he picks them off one by one, with his own powers or through manipulating others.

Manipulation is a skill Axel also has perfected. He can make you believe that he’s on your side as long as it will benefit him, and you’ll believe it because he’ll do everything in his power to further your aims until they conflict with his own. Once that happens, he’s in control. You might find yourself mysteriously dead or betrayed, or left behind in the dirt. Allying with Axel is a dangerous and unpredictable endeavour, but if your aims coincide, it may turn out for the better in the end.

To go along with his sarcasm, Axel has a tendency for the morbid, joking even on his death-bed about his lack of a heart and inability to feel. His humor is a throw back to having a heart, forcing smiles out of his fellow Nobodies as they remember that that should have been funny. He also has a catchphrase that will inevitably get on everyone’s nerves. If he tells you anything, be it his name or something equally inane, he’ll ask you if you’ve “got it memorized?”, tapping two fingers to his temple.

But when he’s with Roxas or Xion, he relaxes. His formal, “working” persona drops and his diction become casual, his voice drawls and his lazy side takes over since he has no one to impress, he has no need for them to see him as anything other than who he is.

Axel enjoys naps, sea-salt ice cream and watching the sunset from his favorite spot in Twilight Town. His Somebody was somewhat of a romantic, and that carries on in Axel. He also is victim to mood swings that can spin a 180 in a single moment.

Magical Powers/Weapons/Skills:
Axel wields chakrams, a set of two spiked metal circles, each fittingly with eight points around the edges. He uses them like twin boomerangs, tossing them out, usually covered in flames, only for them to return to his hands as if magnetic. When he’s not using them, they are stored in what can be assumed to be the Darkness. When he summons them, they appear in a burst of flames. He can also use various spell, such as ones to cause blizzards or to heal, but fire is his main weapon and he can wield it to great effect. He even has the ability to hold up a wall of fire without breaking a sweat.

He can also summon Portals of Darkness which use Corridors of Darkness to move from one place to another, usually to different worlds, but also within a world.

Other Abilities:
Axel can be used to warm food, cook them even, so maybe he can cook? If that counts? The only problem is making sure that he doesn’t burn them. He’s also very good at playing cards, learned from Luxord, since his poker face is unreadable.

Journal Post Sample:
Hello? Hey, well why don’t you look at that. It really works! Bet Vexen’d have a field day with this thing. Not that he can anymore, but... [Axel leans in to the feed, a leering grin on his lips] I’ve got to say, this wasn’t where I was expecting to wake up, but if you really want me on the side of light, at least I can give you the darkness’ side of the coin?

[He chuckles, settling back onto his bed] Seems like I’ll finally get a chance to relax though. Who else’s been abducted, huh? I just hope we’ll get along.

Oh, and I’m Axel. That’s A-X-E-L. Got it memorized? [He waves carelessly at the camera before shutting it off]

Third-Person Sample Post:
“Alright, alright. Fine!” Axel waved Saix off, leaving the waiting room with his new mission in mind. Introduce the new guy. Great. Why’d he always get stuck with this job? He wasn’t really the prime rib of the Organization. No, he was more of the little tough bit no one really wanted to eat, but he was there anyway.

Maybe he could get the kid--and he was a kid--to at least say a few words first. A nice “hello?” maybe, or a “Hi, my name is,”. It was only polite if he did.

Oh, that made him chuckle. Polite. Who needed politeness if you didn’t have a heart? But everyone insisted on it, so Axel assumed that they all found it necessary. But, man, protocol had never been his thing. Nope, bending the rules to their breaking point was what he liked to do, if only to test the boundaries until Saix gave him that Look and he backed off. Testing Saix was fun too, but the other man knew he was only doing it because he was bored. Isa had always had more patience than him anyway.

He might have to show the new guy around. Number XIII, they’d said. Roxas. The Key of Destiny. Destiny. Right. Because Nobodies had destinies. But he didn’t have to show him around now, did he? Nah, he didn’t, That could wait until tomorrow. Right now, Axel opened a portal to Twilight Town, that back water world with the best ice cream in the Multiverse.

No one would’ve thought that a fire-wielder would like ice cream, but it really was his favorite thing. It reminded him of the open ocean, of freedom, or light and happiness. All things that he didn’t have now, but that he could have someday. Maybe it just showed him what he was missing, why he was working for Xemnas, taking Saix’s orders and punishments like some little lap dog.

Or maybe he just liked the taste. It made his taste buds feel, at the very least. They seemed to be addicted to the stuff, that mixed flavor of salty and sweet. They never seemed to be expecting it, and Axel always savored that first moment, his nerves perking up for the first time after a grueling mission. It was also his treat, a reward for a job well done, since in the Organization the only real reward for finishing a mission was another mission.

Anticipation bubbling, Axel purchased his usual bar of sea-salt ice cream and climbed the clock tower. The guy at the ice cream stand knew him by now, and had stopped questioning his black coat and insane hair.

Finally, Axel felt at home. A longing for emotions he couldn’t have filled the sore spot in his chest, that gaping hollow whole where his heart used to be. But sitting here, watching the sunset, it was routine. It was calm. It was safe. Here, he wasn’t Number VIII. He was Axel. Just...Axel.
