Battle Grounds Coffee Shop
New York City, New York
Afternoon

The irony of the shop's name had never really been lost on Yoko. It was probably just meant to be a pun about coffee grounds, but she didn't read it that way. God knows it was usually noise enough inside to sound like a battleground. Between people talking, glasses clinking, and whatever ( Read more... )

He hadn't been outside in nearly a year. He hadn't seen the sun, hadn't tasted the air, hadn't smelled the putrid smog that the city seemed to adopt in every fiber of its structure. But he didn't mind - actually, he much preferred the smell to the numbing chemical-stench that he had been inhaling day in and day out for months. To him, New York City seemed like a haven ( ... )

And he had the knack of sneaking up on people, too, it seemed. Yoko nearly jumped out of her skin when Birkin spoke up. She barely managed to stifle a squeak of surprise. She turned her head to look at her former boss.

"Uhm, no apologies needed, Doctor Birkin. Uh, h-here. Let me get a chair." One of the college kids near the register had walked off with it, apparently.

She bobbed her head apologetically before getting it back (the young man gave her a weird look before handing over an empty chair). She carried it back to the table before setting it down and taking her own seat back.

"Uhm, s-sorry about that." And while none of the others may have been nearby, there was a pistol tucked safely in Yoko's purse. Call it a bit of paranoia on her part, really.

"I'm sorry for disturbing you." William bowed his head. He hadn't meant to sneak up on Yoko like that - perhaps it was just his Tyrant instincts rearing their ugly mugs again. Maybe it was just Albert's personality rubbing off on the good doctor. Whatever it was, Birkin knew that he had frightened the young women and for that, he felt horrible.

"Thank you," Birkin said as he rested himself in the chair. As he did, however, those large black claws peeked out from the recesses of his business suit.

"N-no, no. It's all right. I-I know you didn't mean to cause any trouble." Yoko did her best to smile before finishing off what was left of her coffee. "S-so... did someone pay your bail? W-was it... Wesker?" It never hurt to ask, did it?

Thoe claws definitely made her a little uneasy, though. She looked down at them for a second before immediately looking back up. "I-if this is too much trouble for you..." The rest didn't need to be said.

"Uhm... w-would you like some coffee?"
