The Character Survey of.....DOOOOOOM.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Jade is about 5'2" in height, short for a thirteen year old. However, she'll grow a little in later years (puberty has hit her kind of late). She's skinny and a little lanky, like her brother, but will fill out when she finally hits puberty.
2. How old is she?
Jade is thirteen years old. She thinks that she was born on December 1st, but in reality she was 'created' in an ectobiology chamber on April 13th, 2009 and sent back in time during the reckoning to her 'birthday.'
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
She carries herself well, but tends to slouch when sitting down (a bad habit caused by years of putting the keyboard in her lap).
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Jade is pretty fit! She runs around outside all the time, often wandering to her heart's content. She used to believe she had some sort of strange illness that caused her to go to sleep a lot of the time, but since arriving in Death City she no longer has that problem. Jade is nearsighted, and if you take away her glasses, can't see shit. Other than that, she has no outstanding problems of any sort.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Jade walks with purpose -- except when dreaming, where her dreamself tends to amble and float from place to place. She knows what she wants and moves toward it. But she has an awkward grace to her movements, a little clanky but always natural.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Jade, in the general sense, is really damn cute. She's slightly skinny for her age but definitely makes up for it with the fact that she's almost always got a smile on her face and has clear, green eyes that say she isn't really afraid of anything. However, getting her to accept the fact that she's pretty is a different manner. Jade doesn't see herself that way at all -- she's nothing like a stereotypical beauty queen, or like one of her Grandpa's beautiful women from the hair salon pictures. Sometimes she wonders why people would like her looks at all.
She does like her eyes, though.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
A humongous farmer's tan on her arms, face, and neck from sitting out in the sun for too long, but Jade doesn't really mind. Other than that, she's got moderately fair skin, with a relatively clear face in the way of acne. When she's stressed, she will get a few pimples here and there, but never large outbreaks. Her hands are scarred from years of taking care of guns and exploring the jungle, and she has a few curiously-shaped scars from where she's had to stitch herself up over the years.
In soul campaign she has acquired a three to four-inch, jagged scar. It's located on her back, between two of her lower ribs on the right side. This was caused by the fight with Vriska and Cheshire, when Jade was stabbed with a dagger.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Black hair, that is pretty tangled. Jade attempts to comb it out, but it's so thick and fluffy that sometimes she does a really poor job of it. As such, it's not uncommon to find a few twigs stuck in there from time to time, though she tends to get those out. She likes to look nice, but doesn't always value the high esteem of women's beauty. It's fairly straight, with a few natural waves, and is SUPER LONG. When she sits down, her hair coils on the ground.
9. What color are her eyes?
Jade's eyes, if Hussie's formspring is to be believed, is a shade of green akin to her typing color.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Two buckteeth! They are cute.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Her eyes -- she holds a lot of her anger and stress in her eyes, and when she's mad or upset she tends to get headaches.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Casual and, for the most part, varied and able to be used for both work and play. Jade likes all sorts of different colors -- reds, yellows, blues and greens all show up in her wardrobe from time to time. And she's not afraid to try out crazy combinations of clothing, either. Sometimes it looks a little bit like a closet has thrown up on her, but Jade likes it all the same.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
If it's not comfortable, Jade won't wear it -- she almost never wears her Iron Lass suit (unless the need arises), and rarely wears her three in the morning dress, either. All her clothing is made in her exact size (thank you, punch card alchemy!) and fits her really well. She likes more form-fitting clothes, but not skanky or anything. Just fitted enough that it looks nice.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Definitely! What is a job when you're thirteen.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
SQUIDDLE UNDIES. Bright green, occasionally bright blue or maybe blue and green polka dots? She doesn't always wear undies with Squiddles, just sometimes. She enjoys patterns, too! However, when she's running around in her pajamas, she never wears underwear.
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
A slightly nasal voice, kind of high-pitched. She still sounds really adorable, though.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Jade is loud, there's no way around it. She always seems very excited when she talks, but you can tell her emotions by the way she enunciates things or changes her tone. Mostly she speaks fast, sometimes too fast for people to keep up. And she always knows what she wants to say -- that is, unless you manage to make her brain malfunction.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Not particularly. Though she does like to say "jeez!" and "lol!" Yes, she does actually say "lol" out loud, no one ever told her that was a bad thing.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluent English, and a smattering of French, Japanese, and Hawaiian. But not enough in any of those to have a full conversation at all -- just a few words here and there.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
No.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Jade says whatever's on the tip of her tongue, so I guess that would make her really good at speaking whenever she needs to. And sometimes, when she really shouldn't.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
She isn't an eloquent or prosaic speaker like Rose -- Jade's typical speech is more earthy, natural and easy to follow. She does get a little geeky when she starts talking about Physics and tinkering, though that's not often.
