ALL ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER
Name: Xion
Game: Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
Point in Canon: post-Days (and therefore also after the Deep Dive scene)

History/Background:
This be crazy complicated, but let me summarize...

The Organization knew that Sora and Roxas might not work for their plans, so they made back-ups using the Replica Program. They created clones -- replicas -- of Riku and Sora, but in the Kingdom Hearts series we only see one of each. Nisemono, or Riku Replica, was such a "failure" that he wasn't even given a number, and he was kept at Castle Oblivion. However, No.i was functional enough that Xemnas decided to take it to the Castle That Never Was. He named it Xion, believing that "a name defines an object [and] gives it a purpose," and for all appearances, the replica was inducted into the Organization.

There, the replica struck a friendship with Sora's Nobody, Roxas. Around that time, Naminé had started taking apart Sora's memory chain over at Castle Oblivion. Unknowingly, some of those memory links "fell through" Roxas to Xion, and the replica began to take an appearance very similar to Sora's strongest memory, Kairi, and this also affected her personality, as it started to reflect the Kairi that Sora remembered.

Through Roxas, Xion also made close friends with Axel, and the three of them became a trio of best friends. No matter how much Roxas and Xion wanted their friendship to last forever, the Xanatos Gambit set up by Xemnas was working against them. Roxas and Xion were never meant to continue to exist at the same time; in the end, one would have to absorb the other, so that they would have more of Sora's strength, and then perhaps he would never wake up, and then the Organization would have a Keybearer they could control.

Over the course of Xion's attempt to learn about herself, she encountered Riku, who was working alongside Ansem the Wise (then known as DiZ) and Naminé to awaken Sora. Though their first encounter was by no means friendly and it left Xion shaken deeply, in the end she began to consider him someone she could trust. He was honest with her and did not hide answers from her, unlike the Organization, and, more importantly, he gave her a chance to choose what she wanted to do. Did she want to go to Sora, or did she want to stay with her friends? He urged her to make the decision that was right for everyone, not just for her, and these words impacted her heavily, and in the end they are what helped her make up her mind.

By the end of 358/2 Days, Xemnas had selected Xion to be the one to survive; she would absorb Roxas and become a more complete Sora Replica. He sent Axel to bring her back to the Castle, and when Axel succeeded, Xemnas took her and reprogrammed her so she would be able to tap into three devices the Organization created and set up that would allow her to draw on Sora's memories in Roxas so she could defeat him in battle and then take his power.

However, Xion now had two driving motivations: She didn't want her best friend to die, and she was going to stop Xemnas at any cost. When Xemnas enacted his final plan, she was one step ahead of him. She made sure that Roxas would defeat her, not the other way around. He would absorb Sora's memories that held Xion's existence together and she would completely cease to be, even in the memories of others, but Roxas would live on, and he could have a chance of foiling Xemnas once and for all.

Roxas gained the ability to use Xion's Keyblade as well as his own. When he went charging back to the World That Never Was to destroy Kingdom Hearts, he encountered Riku. Xion managed to make Roxas throw her Keyblade -- then in the form of Oblivion -- to Riku, and because of this, she was able to urge him to stop Roxas from making it to the Castle. She knew Roxas wasn't ready to face the Organization yet; he wasn't strong enough, despite holding half of Sora's power. In order to stop him, Riku gave in to the darkness in his heart, changing his form to that of Xehanort's Heartless. As Roxas lost consciousness, the last of his memories of Xion faded, signaling the true end of her existence.

Personality:
Xion's personality is an even blend of Sora's and Kairi's, and it wouldn't be a stretch to say that there's a touch of Roxas in her, too.

She is, on default, a quiet, shy girl. This doesn't mean she isn't friendly, it just simply means that she's naturally quiet. She is an introvert, and instinctively turns inward to find the answers and solutions to the questions and conflicts of life. She is also surprisingly solitary for a replica of Sora; when she is upset and conflicted, she does not turn to her friends for support, and instead she closes herself off in her room to think. She needs the space to do this, and she will grow distant or even cold if she is being held up from her Quiet Time. Perhaps in this way, she is more like Sora than one would normally think; Sora never talks about his own problems, instead holding them inside and putting forward a cheerful face. Xion keeps her problems inside as well, she just handles the external interactions with people differently, and perhaps moreso like her friend Roxas. Also like Roxas, she can get lost in her thoughts and her personal issues, and her tendency to keep her thoughts and secrets close to her (non-existent) heart coupled with her surprising personality 180 can sometimes make her hard to understand.

She has been described as emotionally fragile, and because of her insecurity, she certainly gives off that vibe -- of something small, soft, easily broken, something to protect and cherish -- but it is more like there are some very sensitive areas that, when breached, make her react in very emotional ways (for while she is a replica and replicas do not have hearts, she has a strong connection with Sora, and, like Roxas, this allows her to feel emotions despite not having a heart). She is very insecure about who she is as a person and uncertain about her role and purpose in life. The knowledge that she is just a replica, created to be controlled like a common puppet, makes that subject especially sensitive. Although she is a "turn inward" type of person, she is also, like Roxas, a "lash out" type, and so when she feels strong emotion, she cannot stop it from showing.

Do not mistake her quiet and shy nature to mean that she is meek and mild as well -- She is quite the opposite. Like Kairi, she has a sisterly attitude towards her close friends. She worries and looks out for them, and she is always ready to protect and support them. Like Sora, like Roxas, her friends are her everything. Around them, she relaxes and opens up, and she will laugh and jokes around and tease her friends, and it is perhaps here that she acts the most like Sora, playful-competitive and almost bouncy with optimism and cheer.

Like Kairi, her personality is very grounded and she is logical, though, and when she is comfortable she can be even confident in herself and her abilities. She is a very determined individual, and when she has made up her mind to do something, she follows through with it, even if she is double-guessing herself. She is also curious and observant, taking delight (like Sora) in exploring new worlds and things, noticing little details and drawing conclusions from them; she was taught this for reconnaissance missions, but it carried on into the way she watches people, too. It can be said that she is empathetic like Kairi and, in some ways, smarter than Sora and Roxas, for she processes information and details quickly and can see the different sides of an issue, especially when it comes to emotional subjects.

Even in the face of the truth that the people she considered almost family manipulated and used her, that not all was as well as she thought, that in order to set things right and save her friends she had to give up not just her life, but everything she ever was and would be remembered by... She did the right thing. She saw the big picture -- well, "big" as in "Xemnas is messed up in the head, don't let him get Kingdom Hearts, he has to be stopped, and Sora is the only one who can do it" sort of way -- and recognized that. Although she wanted to be with her friends forever, what needed to be done needed to be done, and she made the ultimate sacrifice for it. Her death is concrete evidence of her determination and altruistic nature. She will do the right thing... once she figures out what it is, anyway.

First-Person Sample:

I thought I'd never wake up again... but here I am.

I can see sunlight coming in through the open window. There are birds outside, singing and chirping. And I'm just sitting here on this bed.

I... I can't believe it. I thought that I... Who said it? That Nobodies fade into darkness? That they leave nothing behind? But then, I guess... I'm not a Nobody. Maybe that's why I didn't fade. Maybe that's why I'm here instead... Wherever "here" is.

Naminé said there wouldn't be anything left of me. Not even a memory... But here I am. Breathing. Seeing. Thinking. How am I here? How am I alive? Was it all... just a dream? Did I not really die? What about Roxas?

... Where's Roxas? Where am I? This isn't the Castle. I didn't fall asleep on another world, did I? I didn't faint again, did I?

I've got to find out. I can't just sit here. I have to find out what happened.

Third-Person Sample:

Xion scratches the back of her head. W-Well... She guesses she'll just have to wear her coat to work today. It was nice of Xigbar to let her stay at the hotel (and in a room near Axel and Roxas, too!), but... It looks like whoever lived here last didn't entirely clear out their closet before they left. Xion is now in possession of an entire set of lederhosen, one for every day of the week, and she's not really sure what to do with it all.

"Oh, well..." she sighs, closing her closet door. "I'd better get going. Axel won't be happy with me if I'm late."

It's a nice enough day, so she decides to walk to the café. The air's still a little chilly, but the sun is out and it feels good. Xion has not stopped appreciating every turn of the weather ever since her arrival in the Town. She's alive, and Roxas and Axel are here with her, and they're not being asked to collect hearts or fight each other. They're being allowed to just... live. Xion can't ask, has never asked, for anything more than that. Even though there's some unrest in the townspeople, even though there's a little voice gnawing away at Xion in the back of her head, she's happy, and she's determined to make use of every second of her second chance.

Her thoughts fall back to her plans for the next few days. She needs to earn some money to buy new clothes. For one, she doesn't want to wear her coat all the time. For another, she absolutely refuses to wear the lederhosen. For a third, none of it was even close to being her size.

... She giggles. What kind of a word is "lederhosen," anyway? Just call them shorts, like everyone else. Maybe Axel knows why lederhosen is called lederhosen. She bets Roxas has never heard the word in his life. She imagines his expression ("Lederhosen? What's that?") and giggles again as she pushes open the door.

"Hey, guys! Guess what I found in my closet this morning..."
