When we last left our heroes...

Jared thinks about it about a month later, when he's opened his first solo gallery show; an installation of marble sculptures and reliefs in the style of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics. Which he should be enjoying, but instead in the bathroom, clutching the porcelain toilet bowl as his stomach heaves all the tasty little hors d' oeuvres out of his body. Jared's hoping against hope that it's just bad shrimp, and when he goes outside to the gallery he'll see a bunch of similarly green-looking patrons.

But this time he's not alone. Jensen's there holding his hair back, and rubbing a wet paper towel against his pressure points. And when Jared looks up, he sees Jensen's smiling face next to him. He hears Jensen murmur comforting little words, calling him seahorse and blowing cool air on his skin.

And yeah, it was still worth it.

The Fertile Crescent

Jared leans in to the feeling of Jensen's fingers on his forehead, taking a moment to just enjoy the way he's wrapped around him, lips against Jared's temple; mouth at Jared's ear.

"It'll be okay, it'll be okay."

Jared laughs a little bitterly and feels his stomach pull down again, and finishes coughing up the last morsel of food in his body.

"It'll be okay." Jensen says again, when Jared's done and he's washing his face in the bathroom sink. Jared looks up and sees Jensen's reflection in the mirror, staring at him.

Thing is, Jensen doesn't look all that reassured. He's got this look of terror and uncertainty written all over his face.

"Jensen," Jared starts.

"It's just-"

"We'll take it easy, one step at a time."

"-lightning doesn't strike twice." Jensen swallows. "I don't know, one miracle is-well it's a miracle. How far can you really push it, though? What if a healthy baby was a one-time deal and, and-mmph!" Jared's hand closes down over Jensen's mouth.

"I'd kiss you, but I love you Jensen, and I just spent the better portion of the night throwing up shrimp cocktail. So just pretend I found a really sexy and loving way to shut you up, okay?"

Jensen laughs against his hand.

"Now, like I was saying, I think we might be getting ahead-" the door to the bathroom bangs open, cutting Jared off, and two more guys run into the stalls and start making the most horrible retching sounds.

Jared and Jensen emerge from the bathroom to a room full of decidedly green-looking patrons.

"S'bad shrimp in the cocktail," Chad moans and grabs his stomach. Sophia pats his forehead and shrugs at Jared.

"I'm so sorry, Jared," she says and decides at the last moment against kissing his cheek, instead she rubs his shoulder reassuringly. "There'll be other openings, yeah?" Chad moans and she flips Jensen and Jared a wave as she starts to head to the car.

Jared's TA's agree to help close down the gallery so he can leave early. Jared collapses into bed the second they get home, and Jensen pays the babysitter and thanks her for the night. He checks on Eve, still sound asleep in her bed. Jensen leans down and gently kisses her temple, she stirs, makes a small breathy sound, but settles.

Jared's showering when Jensen gets back to the room, clothes discarded in a trail towards the bathroom. Jensen pulls off his tie and lays back on the bed, kicks off his shoes and socks, eyes slipping shut.

He feels the bed dip moments later, feels the warmth at his side. "Feeling better?" Jensen asks.

"Little bit," Jared says, laying a damp head on Jensen's shoulder. "You okay?"

"I'm not the one who ate the bad shrimp."

"Yeah, but you are the one who had a panic attack," Jared points out. "I mean, would it really be so bad-nevermind, you don't have to answer that. I mean, you can if you want to but actually I don't think I'd want to know the answer if it's not the one I was thinking of and I don't think we should talk about it because I'll say something and stick my foot in my mouth and you'll know how much I-" Jensen cuts off Jared with a finger to his lips. His eyes are open right now, and he's leaning in close.

"Don't you think, it might be just a little bit of hubris to think we could pull off a medical and scientific and biological and possibly supernatural miracle-twice?"

Jared considers it for a moment. "Don't you believe that if something's meant to happen, it will happen?"

"I believe in things Jared, and I know things. Sometimes it's hard to negotiate-"

"I know you'd make a great father," Jared interrupts. "I know you want a kid of your own. One that isn't split four ways, just the two of us, y'know. Eve is everything, but I know you want more. I know you look at Sophia and Chad's twins and you hurt a little in a way you don't quite know how to handle."

Jensen quirks his mouth, "I am going to murder Katie," he says, laying back on the bed, hands behind his head.

Jared laughs, drapes a damp arm across Jensen's chest, a leg around his waist.

"There was a moment back there... There was this moment when I was kind of excited. When I just thought hey, maybe we are gonna have another kid. A little brother or sister for Eve. Someone that's a part of me and you and yeah, it was nice. Scary as hell, but nice at the same time."

Jared leans forward, momentum pushing to sit up, straddling Jensen's hips, terrycloth towel around Jared's waist the only thing keeping his modesty. Jared leans down, hands on Jensen's face, rubbing his thumbs across the stubble there.

"What if we just-?" Jared trails off.

"What if we try?" Jensen asks.

"If it's meant to be, it'll be," Jared says, leaning back and running fingers down Jensen's shirt, undoing the buttons.

"Saves money on condoms."

"Less waste."

"Better for the environment."

"Oh yeah, we're saving the world."

"One fuck at a time."

Jared moves down and kisses Jensen, mouth trembling-fluttering against his.

Yes, the Seahorse sequel is coming in about an hour, I am just breaking this out from it because it's not actually part of Big Bang, but you'll need it to get started!
