Right, so...in our last installment was the inevitable
'boss made me cry' entry.
Friday at the end of the day (10 minutes before quitting time) he finally had time and was in a good enough mood to go over my paperwork for my
trip to Houston. By the end of the conversation, his wife had joined in and I was made to understand that I was :
- the most wonderful secretary imaginable,
- that I was part of the furniture (that is meant to be a compliment in French),
- that they had complete faith in me to negociate with a foreign supplier
- that the company wouldn't be doing so well if it were not for me
- .... blahblahblah...
While it was very nice to hear, it was also a bit hard to swallow considering how he usually speaks to me (and all my coworkers as well)! I took advantage of his good mood to remind him that we would all be happier and in better moods if he didn't systematically insult us when he was in a bad mood or annoyed. His defense was that this was a learned behavior from his years working on construction sites and in refineries. I reminded him that he now worked in an office with 4 women, one of whom is his wife and another of whom is 7 months pregnant.
He said he would try harder.
I don't believe him.
But whatever. He is not only paying the round trip to Houston (from FRANCE) but paying for a ticket so that I can swing by Colorado for 2 weeks to visit my family....I sometimes really hate it when he's nice!!! They also gave me a dozen farm fresh eggs...(boss lady raises chickens as a hobby). I got home an hour later than usual...
I am leaving for Houston on Tuesday morning (before the crack of dawn) and looking at the weather forecast it is supposed to be in the mid-80's with scattered showers and thunderstorms (=hot and humid) which is much hotter than it has been here. I fly to Denver on a week from Monday where the long-range forecast says mid-60's with possible showers....This means 2 completely different sets of clothes! I am having a packing crisis!!! Help!!!! Not to mention that in Houston I will be crawling around a dusty warehouse taking pictures of spare parts for a refinery...this is not a business suit sort of business trip!
I will probably be out of touch until I get to Colorado, but I will try to remember to post about adventures in Houston. I can't remember if anyone on my flist is in the Colorado front range area...I will be moving back and forth between Centennial and Ft Collins from the 4th to the 14th of May...will anyone be around?
