I tried rewatching that scene, and I suppose her reaction works as someone trying to let a friend know that she's dealing with the stress of her returned husband and isn't up for socializing, but on the first watch I thought she would mention a romantic relationship when Jimmy attacked the guy.

Vessels: I find it interesting that the ability to be a vessel for angels is genetic. Does this make sense of the shepherds at Jesus's birth seeing a host of angels (assuming that happened in SPN canon)? That they all were of that bloodline?
This will apply to Sam and Dean, which is why they are establishing it now.

Also, the timeline does not make sense between Castiel raising Dean out of Hell, trying to speak to him and then taking a vessel. There was enough time to get Jimmy prescribed pills, so at least a week, and it does not make sense. Arrrgggghhhh.
The timeline was that Castiel began speaking to Jimmy weeks before he possessed him. Jimmy spent that time learning to hear his voice, performing the tests of faith and trying to convince his wife that it was real. The moment his wife gave him the ultimatum and he dressed in his suit and was possessed on his front lawn was the night that he visited Dean and Bobby in the barn. Does that help?

Ooh, that's very interesting. I am really looking forward to the finale.

And thanks for clarifying the timeline. I was going with the assumption that Castiel decided to take a vessel only when he realized Dean needed it to hear him, but someone pointed out that Castiel could have needed a vessel for other reasons
