Theme: #3: The Rain
The sound of the heavy rain beating down was accompanied by the pattering of a certain tiny shinigami’s feet against the wood floor as she sprinted towards the Special Forces HQ. Rain or shine, it was her duty to protect Yoruichi. She slowed as she landed under the roof of the building, panting to catch her breath. Sliding the large doors open, she walked in and bowed down on the floor in respect to the Goddess, as was her routine. As she knelt, a small puddle formed below her. Normally Yoruichi would make some comment about how she was being too formal, but no comment came today. She raised her head to find the room completely empty.
“Oi, Soi Fong!” The familiar voice came from behind her, and she turned to see the princess of the Shihouin family in an ornate kimono, holding an expensive looking umbrella and wearing an expression of surprise on her face. “I had family business to deal with today, I must have forgotten to tell you.”
Soi Fong stood and bowed again. Yoruichi had indeed forgotten, but that wasn’t something she should worry about. “No Yoruichi-sama, it must have slipped my mind. It is no problem.” Her comment brought back Yoruichi’s usual cheerful expression. She walked over and put a hand on her bodyguard’s wet head, ruffling her hair.
”You’re not even working today, so I’m just Yoruichi, alright?” She chuckled and noticed the puddle that Soi was now standing in, and pulled her close.
“Yoruichi-sama, your kimono!” To be completely honest, Soi was more startled by the fact that she had been pulled into an embrace, and she had felt her heart skip a beat, but that wasn’t something she would trouble Yoruichi with. She had blurted out the first thing that came to mind to keep the attention off of her childish and hopeless crush.
”What did I say about that, little bee?” The taller shinigami pulled herself away just enough to look into Soi Fong’s eyes, snickering again at Soi’s formality. “You’re soaked to the bone, you’ll catch a cold like that you know.”
She hadn’t realized her own condition, as she had been focused on making it to the HQ on time that morning. And she hadn’t even needed to be there. She flinched, upset with her own behavior, and then her eyes dropped to the floor. “Sorry Yoruichi, it seems I’ve caused you to worry when it was completely unnecessary.”
“Don’t say that.” With her free hand, Yoruichi tilted the tiny shinigami’s head back up to face her, a warm expression on her face. “I choose who I worry about, you know. And this kimono? It’s more useful drying you off than anything else.”
The words came as a shock to Soi, and she couldn’t find any way to respond other than to nod and accept the dark-skinned woman who again wrapped herself around her guard. She still thought herself completely undeserving, that her Goddess was wasting her affections, but she had said she chose who she wanted to care about. Maybe, just maybe, the little bee’s crush wasn’t as hopeless as she’d originally thought.
