The outskirts of Rukongai had always been peaceful. None of the hustle and bustle of the small run-down town, just the blue sky and the occasional fireworks shot from the large cannon attached to the strange lone building that the Second Division Captain was currently visiting. She was seated alone just in front of the house, after Kuukaku had left in a huff nearly a half hour earlier, muttering something about how 'that bitch is late again.' But Soi didn’t mind waiting. Now, more than ever, she felt like she could wait an eternity even for the shortest visit by her former mentor.

The sun had just begun to set, and already the cold was settling in for the night. Soi had her captain’s jacket flung over her shoulders, just enough to cover the open back on her uniform. Pulling it down around her to protect her from a particularly chilly breeze, she dropped her gaze from the sky down to the shape of a small girl playing in the field in front of her. Her jet black hair was up in a bun, decorated with a beautiful golden ornament that glittered in the sun as the hanging jewels danced in the sunlight. She was wearing a deep purple kimono, patterned with golden butterflies that almost appeared as if they would escape the garb at any moment.

The ball she was playing with rolled away from her towards the sun, and she shielded her eyes, skipping through the grass merrily after the orb until she saw it stop at the feet of a silhouette in the sun. The figure leaned over and picked up the ball, stifling a chuckle as she noticed the kitten that adorned the toy. Golden eyes met a smaller pair of golden eyes, and she dropped the ball down into outstretched hands, taking a moment to ruffle the girl’s hair before continuing on her way towards the Shiba house.

Though she was entirely covered up by her manila robe, Soi already knew who the figure was. She waited with a look that years ago when she had first attained her position of captain, none would think her capable of; rather than the old, stoic look that her vice had sworn up and down was capable of knocking any unsuspecting passerby of his or her feet, she wore a calm, arguably happy expression, one that revealed how much she had grown over the centuries.

A particularly strong breeze nearly knocked the captain’s jacket off of her back. At least, she initially assumed it was a breeze, but constant exposure to the new arrival’s playful mannerisms had made her more than familiar with the feeling of a body flash-stepping just beside her. The cold air behind her was immediately replaced with a warm body pressed against her back, arms locked in front of her holding all her warmth in. "You really should take better care of yourself, or else you might catch a cold, little bee." She had grown accustomed to the teasing over the years, and it simply brought a content smile to her face.

"Of course, Yoruichi-chama."
