Lockdown

The children are adapting well to lockdown. They have been building things out of scraps of wood - ladders, mostly, for climbing otherwise inaccessible trees. They've taught themselves to hammer nails in straight. I'm ashamed to say couldn't do that until my mid-20s.

We’ve had some luck with letting Maddy and 1-3 other friends Zoom or FaceTime open-endedly, to the point where they’re not really talking anymore so much as just drawing or reading in sight of each other. Maybe not as crucial in a two-child home, but probably the single most successful measure we’ve taken. She also likes silly writing prompts. One other helpful thing (that might have happened around now anyway) is that boredom’s started driving her to pick up the non-picture books we read to her from at bedtime to see what will happen next.

You're definitely better positioned than most to survive this thing, and your kids will learn the actual skills they need to survive.
