Star Wars and religion

I just saw Star Wars tonight. I wasn't all that excited about the first two, but this one fucking rocked! It's weird, because Star Wars has been around since before I was born and it's mythology has become ingrained in our culture. I like episode 3...much better than the other prequels.

I'll see the character of Darth Vader in a whole other light now, knowing he did what he did for love.

Which kind of explains why he turns against the Emperor in Return of the Jedi..he does it to save his son and thus redeem himself.

Anakin actually does bring "balance" to the force by destroying all the Sith, it just takes a lot longer than the other Jedi expected.

That's true. Eventually he kills Darth Sidious and redeems himself. I still have no sympathy for him. The movie struck me as very anti-Bush in a way... maybe I'm just reading too much into things, though.

Well, Lucas says the story corellated more to Vietnam when he wrote it but the whole "If are not with me, you are against me" line sounded very Bush.

Yeah, the "if you're not with us then you're against us" part was a total Bush moment. Also, the way the Empire established peace was by crushing all opposition, not through diplomacy and compromise. I think that's a (slightly exagerated) Bushism as well.
