how do you go about telling parents that you're not a christian? that you no longer share the same religion as them, that your beleifs are different from theirs? especialy when your parents are both very set in their beleifs, and unable to cope with the thought of having a son who beleives differently then they ( Read more... )

I may not be much help. But one thing, Telling them straight out is better than them somehow just finding out about it from a source that is not you. At least if you tell them there won't be a break in trust because you told them the truth. But, I know many who have told their parents that they are gay/lesbian/bi and some reacted in a way that is frightening. Just be careful.

it's hard to tell them, when they react like this to just the possibility of me having different beleifs. when your own father thinks you're gonna go to hell, and asks where he went wrong...

As for the first bit, it's probably easier to go ahead and get that revelation over with. I told my parents what i didn't beleive in, and they seem to think i'm just rebelling and will eventually "come back into the fold". Parents seem to be able to handle religious differences better when they convince themselves that you'll eventually "see the light" and rejoin them in their beleifs. As for the other issue...i can only say Good Luck.

I suggest waiting with that kind of stuff until you are no longer dependent on them.

I agree with Hosea.
Wait till you have your own house and your own income.
Then tell them everything, and if they don't accept you for it, their loss.
