My problem is I never got as far as signing anything.
Apparently my flaw is not signing a lease immediately after walking in the door for the first time. I managed to find three places in the last week or so that I could afford (and stand to be inside for more than 30 seconds without wanting to throw up). And the only reason I'm not living in one of those for the Fall is because in each case: I went over and saw the place, asked all the right questions, expressed clear interest, went home and took a little time to think about it (like an hour or two) only to call back and find out someone walked in and signed the lease on the spot. Shortly after I left.

Get shit in writing! Pay the sublease fees do it by the book and law! You won't be left high and dry that way.
