i realize its racially charged, obviously i am not using it in that context as i am alluding to arabs and myself with it, i would use the argentine spanish term Pibe which means basically the same thing as one of that wrds meanings in english, eg, cool person who has been handed a shitty destiny, but is nonetheless happy and able to accept it, but does not signify the other, eg descendant of north american slaves. Im sorry it offends you but its dumb to write livejournals directed at english speakers in non english languages and there really are no equivalent terms in english besides that one.

also i mean i guess you Are of african descent and I Am (technically even though by DNA I clearly do have africans from my south african side but i realize thats not what is in question) of european descent. but i cant sing along to songs? dude if you call me a cracker i dont care, more to the point because i realize cracker isnt nearly as charged as its equivalent, when people call me faggot as happens often enough i dont care, i would say that faggot is equally negatively charged as the word we are talking about, i guess you have a right to take offense, i dont understand why people take offense- who wants to be offended? bu if you want to, thats your choice. but realize that Im not going to censor my liking of notorious BIG because of LJ comments, nor my displays of liking of notorious BIG.

well let me tell you in what sese its a victory. for one, its the first time that israel has failed to succeed in its imperial project in its history. therefore, and this is a position that it seems most lebanese agree with, despite the fact that obviously, it would be better if 1000 levanese civilians, 5 UN observers, 100 something israelis, etc hadnt died, it is good because it means that maybe the kind of aggression which the region is accutomed to from israel will be less likely in the future. in this sense, its the same idea that the US won world war 2- nobody wins in the sense of, the families with dead sons and daughters and fatehrs etc dont win, BUT in the sense that life for the ``victors`` or those who remain, is significantly better than it would have been. this applies to all arabs, not just lebanese, as is farily well known the colonial divisions of different arab states dont signify a lot to the arab world as is reflected in the term arab street ( ... )

i dont know what to make of the whole situation personally. mostly to me it is just indicative of how people with guns and political power make decisions that makes everyone else lose. right now i am in a muslim country and this taxi driver was telling me about how i should go home and tell poeple that people everywhere are the same in that they want peace and what not. i was thinking, no shit, think bush is my fault? its hard to stop your own country from doing the shit it does, like supporting israel in invading lebanon, or the us invading iraq, etc. people support hezbollah because they see them as fighters for the dignity and freedom of the arab poeple. that is the label they have garnered because of israel's war. they dont see them as beeing murderers or terrorists, which is how some people outside the arab world are made to view them. i think they are somewhere in between. i just think its shitty that this war was just a case of civilians losing to guys with the political power and weapons under their belt. maybe its just iran ( ... )

i was just thinking of it as a bit of a class struggle sort of thing. i think that your previous points about the imperialism of israel are quite importnat, specifically the method of that nation's creation. i think so much of the anger in the middle east is arising in response to the colonial era. i think it was syria's president that said something about restoring dignity to the arab people. i think they feel that they have been wronged by colonialism (along with a whole lot of the rest of the world), and also, that their religious/cultural beliefs are being threaten by the modern imperialism represented by the US and Israel. it is very difficult to imagine true islam coming to terms with the modern world. christianity fought modernization too, but due, i believe, in large part to the concurrent events of the protestant revolution and the scientific revolution, modernity kinda won out. islam has held out better i feel. consumersm and commercialism that are the backbone of modern imperialism will not be accepted easily by muslims.
