God, it sounds like business as usual at the DCC. My mother had to reapply for her job too when they sold off the care home she's been working at for years to the private sector. She got the job, but needless to say the pay is lower, and many of her colleagues have been demoted, fired or had their pay buggered up too. The DCC has always been dominated by Tory tightwads, but I agree about Labour being at least partly responsible for the destruction of the welfare state. People seem to forget that it was (New) Labour that took DSA and income support away from the disabled and replaced it with the foul ESA/ASOS assessment combo. The Tories have just built on that in their persecution of disabled people. Atm it seems like the Greens are the only party that gives a rat's arse about welfare, though I'm sure they're not perfect either.
