Inspire me with food

I'm having one of my periodic 'can't be arsed to cook' moods. Most of the time I love cooking but every now and then it's just too much bother. There are several work-arounds, like someone else cooking, or having the children's favourite 4Ps (pasta, pesto, peas and parmesan) which barely counts as cooking, but the best solution is to get my ( Read more... )

This only really uses the cauliflower and the cabbage, and requires other ingredients, but I've recently become fond of spicy bubble and squeak:
- boil parsnips (or potatoes) for 12 mins, rough mash with butter
- cabbage for 3 mins
- add chilli, whatever you fancy and fresh coriander leaves (chopped) and maybe an egg or two (for protein and coherence)
- fry the lot in more butter

Then the cauliflower can be cumin-ified (dusted after a quick boil or stir-fried if the florets are small).

God luck!

That sounds very good, although coriander leaves is one of the few things I don't have in stock. But will def try that when I can next get some. Thank you.

Luck with God? A bit late for that, I think.

Use the veggie haggises as a base for a non-meat bolognese/spicy tom sauce? Then you could have lasagne!

This is a Very Good Idea. Also, maybe as stuffing base?

I would just go for cauliflower cheese, then try boshing the haggis+cabbage+carrot into some kind of frittery/bubble&squeak&haggis thing.

Along the kinds of this, I think I'd make a big traybake thing.

Preheat oven and while its heating, parboil the veggies, chop and mix with 2-3 beaten eggs and garlic, herbs of choice, maybe splash of wine if you have.

Bung in dish, pour white sauce over, top with cheese/breadcrumbs.

Or, I'd use all the veg except cabbage, and serve that steamed on the side.

Mmm, that sounds nice. I hardly ever to tray bake kind of things, and I totally should.

Bubble&squeak&haggis does sound like a contender, if I don't use all the haggis up in the lasagne. Cauli cheese I fear would not be popular, not least since the spare white sauce came from macaroni cheese the other day, which is a bit too similar for the adults tastes, although PB would happily eat macaroni cheese every day. I think trying to cater for 4 people's very diverse tastes is a big part of what I'm fed up of.
