The Pogues at the Orpheum

Mar 23, 2008 11:43

As I posted bunches of times already, I went to to see The Pogues on March 19. I wrote a couple of posts about it on my other site but if you don't read there and want to hear how the concert was, here 'tis, slightly edited to make sense now that it's a few days later, plus some other stuff that I didn't post originally. And some of this is ( Read more... )

I've been waiting for this post! That is SO awesome -- you deserve a rockin night out after all you've been thru lately.

OH thank you sweetie! I almost didn't even post this here because I feel like I've been talking about them so much but I know a few people on my f-list like them. And it was a spectacular concert. I've already decided that next year I'm going to NYC for St. Patrick's Day (they always play there that week) and then to both Boston shows. I'm kicking myself for not getting a ticket to the second show here on Thursday.

Followed you here from irelandaddicts - what a great recap! A friend of mine saw them in NYC and she said one of the most memorable parts of the show as when they sang Fairytale of New York. The audience just knew every word and completely took over. It'll be something she'll remember forever :)

Hi, thanks for the compliment! But it's nothing more than they deserve. It's really amazing how wonderful they were. From reading other people's reports, this was their best tour in years. Absolutely worth every penny of the ticket price.

Funnily enough, as soon as I read the words "Fairytale of New York" in your post, it started playing here. Actually I don't think I've listened to any other group's music since March 19. :-)

If you don't know, they have a box set coming out on 28 April. It's on the UK sites for pre-order but not Amazon USA yet.

Thanks for the info, I'll have to look out for that! [hopefully it'll get to amazon.ca at the same time as it does the US store ;) ]

Sounds like it was a completely fantastic night. I can't believe that I've never seen them live. I kind of lost track of them over the years, so it's great to see they've still got it. It is sad that Shane seems to be known more as an incurable drunk than a brilliant songwriter. Makes you wonder what he'd have done if the booze didn't have such a strong hold on him.

The pics are pretty cool, with that grainy look. Not bad at all for a little point-and-shoot jobbie operated by someone who'd had a drink or two herself. ;-)

If you get a chance to see them, you should. I don't think they'll be back to the U.S. until at least the fall though; maybe not until early 2009. God I hope they don't break up again. Not that I think they would but I just hope they don't. Not when I'm planning a road trip next year! :-)

"operated by someone who'd had a drink or two herself.

Or three! And that did it for me for days. I don't know how Shane can keep up with himself.
