Seeking a programming hours marketplace.

I'm looking for somewhere that I can market 10 to 20 hours a week of my time as a highly experienced programmer, architect, and Agile software development coach. I need a job where I can work from home (or on-site on weekends), that pays within 30% of market scale for someone with 20+ years of experience and a Master's degree (I'll take a hit to ( Read more... )

Hey there... have you checked out eLance? I suspect given the bidding it's probably below the level of your skill and your desired pay rate. If I have a project come up that needs your skills, I'll certainly ping you... but usually our projects are all front end no back end (companies usually want to code it themselves, often to their detriment, but there you go).
I've been considering putting a project up there to be bid on, but I'm dubious about outsourcing to India. Of course I'm also dubious about paying too much, so there you go :)

eLance? Thanks, I'll look into it.

And, yes, please let me know if such a project comes up where you are. Definitely talk to me before you put up a project for open bid--I may be able to make you a better offer than the general marketplace, and you know the quality of my work.

I will certainly talk to you before I put a project up for bid, though I think that this project is large enough it needs a team of, I hate to say it, less expensive workers on it... it would simply take too long for one person, even a super-person such as yourself to do it. Though I will probably need an intermediate super-technical person to help me interpret and communicate with said team of less expensive folks and/or set up the architecture correctly from the onset.
Short version: Yeah, I'll give ya a shout :)

Hah. :-)

Seriously, I've had a job like this once before--10 to 20 hours a week, working from home. Did a great job for them, too. So I know it can work, and I know such jobs exist. It's just a matter of knowing how to find them.

Craigslist is useful for gigs, but you have to be careful about getting paid; those jobs often fall through. Also you might try signing onto freelance-seattle, a listserv.
