Come for the funny, stay for the ethical debate.

Pet adoption service run by atheists for post-Rapture pets. Ethical business contract, or scamming the gullible? You decide. The debate is already going on in the comments.

There appears to me to be, in the comments, a profound confusion between the question of "is this legal" and "is this ethical" -- those are Not The Same.

(And, of course, once again there are some people who are painting with a damned broad brush; I'm glad to see that's not everyone.)

Of course, now I'm hoping for the Rapture. I never thought anyone could get me to do that, but think how surprised all those new pet owners would be.

(This is me, stifling my many rude comments about a particular breed of atheist.)

Man, if the Rapture comes, I'm going to have much bigger worries on my mind than "Oh, no, pets to care for!" Quite frankly, in that eventuality, I think I'd find having a sudden influx of pets quite a relief. Something to cuddle, and immediate concerns to take my mind off of much greater worries.

What greater worries? If the True Believers are right, how much would your life actually be disrupted in the event they were raptured?

(I mean, you surely don't expect *their* God would have anything to do with, say, me, do you?)

*grins* I admit, I love that mental picture. "Um... ok, I know how to deal with the three dogs and seventeen cats, but what on *earth* am I going to do with the llama??"

OTOH, given the perspectives of many rapture-afficionados, I don't really expect that the rapture of all seventeen True Believers is going to cause all that much distress.

(And if *I'm* right in my basic attitudes, but wrong about the rapture scenario being unlikely, those seventeen True Believers are going to have a *awful lot* of animals to take care of! ... um, except that they'd be raptured along with me and thee, so, oh well. ;) )

Given that it is explicit in saying "we don't believe your mythology, but sure, we'll help you deal with a logical conclusion of your crazy setup", it's pretty hard to call it a scam. Certainly more ethical than, say, the lottery.
