Part five My new favorite part. In which Alice's dress defies gravity, Raine slaps a little boy, Lloyd apparently has a new love interest, we go ice fishing and Yuan acts surprisingly in-character.
Part Six
Chapter three, Footfalls of Tomorrow. ... You know, I get the feeling these chapter titles aren't related to the actual plot at all.
So anyway, Alice and Decus arrive in Iselia where they run into some brat called Paul. Paul introduces himself as Paul the Great, Lloyd's apprentice. Decus immediately acts like he's got a stick up his ass. The more he hears about people worshipping Lloyd, the angrier he gets. He must be jealous.
Further into the village, even more kids are playing around. They're doing a little roleplaying game in which one kid pretends to be Lloyd, one kid pretends to be Forcystus and then they beat the crap out of each other. ... Charming. Decus doesn't entirely seem to remember just how much Palmacosta suffered under the reign of Lord Magnius and his Desians. Interesting.
They go to meet with the mayor and ask if he's seen Lloyd around lately. Lloyd could lead them to the guy who committed the Blood Purge, after all. The mayor has no idea and explains that two years ago, Lloyd was also responsible for the destruction of a village. Iselia, to be exact. So the mayor has no doubt that Lloyd had a hand in the Blood Purge, but he does believe that Lloyd has great ideals which involve not killing anyone. Clearly, if he was involved in what happened in Palmacosta, it was completely by accident.
He tells them to go meet with Lloyd's father in Martel Temple. He might know more. OHOH, Lloyd's father, you say?! *perks up*
Oh look, it's Noishe! Out of my way, Noishe. We're going to see Lloyd's father!
... Crap, it's just Dirk. He doesn't believe Lloyd would actually allow Palmacosta to be destroyed. Turns out, the last time he saw Lloyd was six months ago. Apparently he was going to save a friend. ... Six months ago... Save a friend... ... Blood Purge...
... I've got nothin'.
Outside the temple, they run into a familiar face. It's Raine Sage! She's looking for Paul the Great, so Alice explains that the little brat went to patrol the human ranch.
In the village, Paul's mother Lilia is extremely worried about him. The other random villagers assure her that Raine will save him, despite being a half-elf. This horrible half-elf prejudice pisses Alice off and she decides to go to the human ranch to help Raine find Paul.
Sure you can, Decus. Suuure you can.
Hahaha. Ahahah. Had a bit too much fun with the elevators here.
In the deepest part of the ranch, they finally find Paul. He's unconscious and slumped against a wall. Just as they approach him...
A huge monster grabs hold of Decus. Uhoh.
Raine comes running to save the day. Decus isn't pleased. That Photon attack she used could've hit him!
After the fight, Paul gets lectured.
... And spanked.
They return to Iselia, where Raine tells them to wait in the classroom. So they do.
Turns out, Lloyd has quite the fanclub in Iselia.
Raine enters and decides to tell them a little anecdote about what sort of person Lloyd is.
Wait, what? Proposed? To that lady who's Paul mother? But she's like... At least ten years older than him! Lloyd, you cad.
Anyway, Raine tells them to calm down and look at things objectively if they want to find out the truth about Lloyd.
She'd also like to know more about the Centurions' Cores. Apparently, Colette is a little tattletale who already told Raine about them.
They speak to Colette's neighbor Pepe, who tells them he saw Lloyd heading towards Triet Ruins on a strange flying machine. Raine is a bit confused about the fact that Lloyd is traveling around the world so carelessly. He was supposed to look for Exspheres.
She probably just means Dirk again, doesn't she?
And so they travel to Triet Ruins!
Where Raine flips out because the ruins are... ruined.
Inside, they run into another familiar face. It's Genis, Raine's brother! Apparently he saw Lloyd here and tried to follow, but then some huge monster blocked his path.
The only way to get rid of this monster is to feed it certain water-type monster. Which is really just another horrible ploy to introduce a minigame.
Ice fishing, to be exact. Blaarggh...
... I have no clue what I'm looking at, here.
So Decus reluctantly makes a pact with this huge turtle monster and they return to Triet Ruins to have it distract the huge sleeping tree monster.
A complete waste of time, because due to extreme fail on the turtle monster's behalf, it's up to Decus to keep the monster busy while Alice happily runs past.
And so they find Ignis' Core inside the ruins. Raine starts spazzing out over it, and Genis explains that's her "Ruin Mode". Colette mentioned something similar in a skit. Raine claims she's not a maniac but a researcher. I'd say that's a very thin line.
Alice hatches the core, which makes Raine even happier. Now Ignis is officially awake.
WHEN SUDDENLY. Alice is blasted to the ground.
Surprise, surprise! It's the blue-haired weirdo! Raine and Genis know who he is, of course. It's Yuan.
He'll be taking Ignis' core. Well, on the bright side, it's already been hatched, so it won't make him any more crazy.
Decus draws his sword and Alice demands to know why he's going around collecting cores.
... This is my new favorite screenshot, now.
Oh Genis, your faith in Yuan is heartwarming, but completely misplaced. You and I both know he would do those things if he had a good reason for it.
I'm convinced that this dialogue was written for Yuan.
Suddenly, there's a mysterious shaking. Apparently, this makes Yuan decide that now would be a good time to flee.
Decus chases after him.
But Yuan dodges like a pro.
and Decus is left biting the dust.
With that, Yuan runs off.
Will they catch up with Yuan? What old party member will they run into next? Is it a Light Frog or a Nazdrovie?
Stay tuned!
