Very good. I especially enjoyed the part where House is giving Wilson a hard time about not wanting to be a fireman, etc.

ETA: Why did you stop doing fic round-ups after 2009? I would enjoy seeing the last two years.

Thank you! The opening banter was the first part I wrote, ages ago, and I liked it so much that I couldn't abandon the story.

I've only written about five stories in 2010, so it didn't seem worthwhile to do a round-up. I'll probably combine 2010-11 at some point for the sake of archiving...

What a great little story! As others have said, your characterizations are perfect, and the entire story is so well written. I've enjoyed your stories in the past, and this one is no different. This line “Are you sure the goy side of your family isn’t Catholic? Because you’re like some end result of a genetic experiment in guilt.” surprised a laugh out of me amidst the sense of loss and guilt palpable in Wilson's tale. Please feel free to grace us with more House fic anytime you wish.

Thank you! While I love wallowing in the angst, the banter is just too fun - I can't resist giving House his smart-aleck asides.

Thanks for reading - I hope I have more stories to tell!

"it was a long way between knowing something and believing it. Hearing it from House, however, narrowed the gap." I love that. I miss this side of H/W. I want THIS back. Wonderful story! <3

I miss it too. I'd written a lot of the story before "The Social Contract," (in fact, I'd scribbled down the line "It wasn't your fault" a few days before it aired) but that episode really helped focus the ending for me.

Thanks for reading!

Lovely vivid back story which adds a lot of explanation to Wilson's character.

You write such great stuff and do young Wilson so very well - realistic, endearing, and in character.

As a kid I watched the tall ships too with my family, very much like Wilson. Luckily my memories are marred only by a group of nearby picnickers playing "Afternoon Delight" over and over on their 8 track tape player (my father was ready to do a med conference Wilson though and throw something in their direction).

My two favorite lines from this piece:

“Are you sure the goy side of your family isn’t Catholic? Because you’re like some end result of a genetic experiment in guilt.”

House had an empathy for frightened children that Wilson tried not to examine too closely.

I would have helped your Dad :) Though "Afternoon Delight" now reminds me of Arrested Development, so if it happened today, I'd probably laugh at them instead.

I do love writing baby Wilson and screwing him up, one incident at a time.

Thanks for reading!

So nice to see something new from you!

I always suspected that James' older brother was a pill. And yet somewhat House-like in that James trusts him not to lie in order to make him feel better.

My favorite part was the banter at the beginning, especially this: “Oh, wait. You did. You thought you’d be able to stay married for longer than a Presidential term.”

Thank you! It was a relief to finally finish something.

I know we don't know whether the other brother is older or younger, but I do think if he's older he had to be a bit useless, otherwise Wilson wouldn't have taken on the family hero role. I'd thought about shifting the ages up and having Wilson be the oldest and the other brother the baby, but I couldn't give up my seven-year-old James :)

Thanks for reading!
