I'm very happy you enjoyed the Byzantine Border Guards essay. As you must have figured out by now, I'm a demon for context! It's the strongest means for evoking interest (and empathy) in the subject under discussion.

I should add a small but touching backstory: I wanted to include the Death of Diyenis song from the start for many reasons, some of them obvious. Rose wanted to make sure we had the correct permissions to include it. I got in touch with Ksilouris' widow and explained my request and why I thought it was important. She replied, "You have not only my permission but my blessing."

Yes, and thank you for that! It's a big part of why I found your essay so enjoyable. I'm really looking forward to reading the piece you have in the current issue of Stone Telling, but I'm a sucker for reading things in order, which means nonfiction will wait until the poems, etc. =)

I agree with your assessment of the nonfiction and the poetry in Issue #1. Also, I'm flattered that you liked my poem & reading! I'm not super active on LJ, but I'd like to friend you, if that's okay.

J. C. Runolfson is one of my favourite poetry readers of all time, and she does not at all disappoint here.

I am having a very, very rough year, but I wanted you to know this made me smiley, and not a little teary. Thank you.
