I am confused by your quote.

Also, what is wrong with typing the dots in? It's easier then trying to explain to them to -tab- across after the 4. :)

The main issue is the completly non-intuitive way in which Windows handles inserting those addresses. You can't tab across the dots - pressing tab will switch from preferred to alternate DNS. If you type 3 digits into one segment of the IP, you automatically go to the next segment, but whenever I say "type the dots in" I inevitably get "they're already there".

The quote's not verbatim, but it's probably fairly close. It took 20 mins from go to woe for that guy with a DNS issue.
