you'll get used to the wide variety that is UVic. on my breaks I always go to the computer lab on the first floor of Clearhue and either, see who else is online in the computer lab, or waste my time doing something mind numbingly enjoyable. Like watching youtube videos. Teaching styles at UVic also vary greatly from camosun, as far as a many of the teachers at uvic are concerned they are there to act as guides. You are given the means of learning, i.e: a textbook and a classroom environment and they are supposed to make sure you're on the right track, answer questions you may have, fill in other information not covered in the textbook, or reiterate what the textbook has already covered.
as for your missing lab course thing, is it too late to join the one you require? most teachers are pretty understanding, especially if they don't have a full course already.
and remember, WoW should be a reward for completing homework and study, not a substitute.
I went to two classes in the week of the WoW stress test. Luckily it was only a week. I can't say I think WoW is a good idea for anyone in school.
I used to have a spot in the library.. but you well know how they've torn it up and are making it into a coffee shop. Otherwise I'd invite you to join me.
And yeah, feeling behind is normal. You'll make it.
And eventually, you do run into people you know in between classes. It just takes longer to know enough people at UVic. :p

And yeah, all the lab sections are either waitlisted or conflict with my schedule or work, or both...so poop.
