hey! give me one good reason to keep a baby from a shitty one night stand and raise it with someone you hate enough in the light of sobriety that you can't even stand to finish breakfast with them the next morning, and i'll tell you if i got my 40 cents worth from knocked up.

I thought that on top of being really unlikely, the movie also painted such a BLEAK AND DEPRESSING picture of relationships, don't you? Nevermind that all the female characters were completely irrational and bitchy! I mean, come on; fantasy baseball? Am I going to threaten to divorce my husband because he plays fantasy baseball, and stand outside in front of all of his friends and yell at him that his fantasy baseball league means he doesn't love me enough? What the fuck? Had Judd Apatow ever met a woman before in his life?

At least I got to see Seth Rogen's ass!

Wait, what? It had nothing to do with fantasy baseball. She was freaking out because he had such little respect for her and and the family that he lied frequently, over a long period of time, in order to selfishly put his needs before her needs, the needs of their relationship, and the needs of his family.

But it was her stereotypical irrationality (which I mentioned I
thought was unrealistic to life) that put him in a position where he felt like had to be that secretive about something so silly and innocent in the first place; if he'd felt like he could communicate with her and have her actually listen to and try to empathize with him, it never would have happened the way it did. She goes out clubbing with her sister (without her husband) several times, and even flirts with another man there; the hypocritical overtone of her EXTREME reaction to his sitting in a room with a handful of other men bidding excitedly on invisible baseball players for a fake draft bothered me, since I don't know too many women who would have reacted that hardcore to something they were both obviously guilty of (and arguably worse on her end).

That being said, I really just meant for this to be a little funny, nothing side comment to Lindsay about a bad romantic comedy; I hadn't exactly set it up for sociological debate.

I don't know, I too am the pro-choiciest of all the pro-choice Pattys, and I sort of felt like that wasn't the point. I know, Joanna Kearns looked like a cunt because she brought up abortion in a terrible non-sensitive way, and we never got a direct line into the inner monologue that lead up to the decision, but maybe part of what Apatow was saying is that part of that choice means not having to explain your decision to anyone and talk about it to death in a comedy movie? Also, (forgive me, Lindsay, because I've read comment string after comment string after this in all the usual internet places and worked myself up a little bit) I've sort of grown to resent the allegation that because Katherine Heigel's character was educated and successful and unattached that she owed it to society and femininsm and E! television to abort her fetus to make a point.
Finally, fuck everyone and their she'd never go for Seth Rogen, not even drunk, because I'd totally hit that.

my main beef with the relationship between rogen & heigel's characters isn't because hers is model-beautiful & successful and his is an overweight & unemployed slacker, but that she was clearly ONLY dating him because he impregnated her. she couldn't stand him sober, even walked out on a meal with him. so why date him? unless you're really steadfast into this abortion-is-murder nuclear-families-are-right thing. boys are not cars or houses, they aren't fixer-uppers that you purchase to improve. (& girls don't hate fun, and shouldn't have to bear the emotional responsibility for the whole relationship ( ... )
