Cody hasn't learned anything. It makes me sad that he decided to buy Lou a new book only because he was afraid of the lie she told him and not because he was genuinely sorry for his actions

I think Teaspoon is a bit lost about how to deal with Lou. He even questions his parenting skills. Lou is growing up, and she is more a challenge for him now than she used to be. As you say, he needs to tackle the crux of the matter and talk to her for real. Lou isn't trying to be helped because when Rachel attempts to reach to her, Lou refuses to welcome her. Thanks a lot!!!! And thanks for your patience!!!
Lou is still so fragile and damaged. She sees everything as being directed at her. She is still so young and doesn't see all the dynamics working here, it's all about her. Cody is an idiot because that is what teenage boys can be like. Blending a family is hard. This one is like so many others. It can take years to find a rhythm that works.
Yes, you're right about both Lou and Cody. I think Lou is also stubborn and doesn't let anybody in, so when Rachel approaches her, she refuses to be comforted in any way.
This is an example of the hardest part of being a parent. Children who are being hurtful like Lou is to Teaspoon need love and reassurance more than ever. But they make it pretty hard to do, when they lash out so viciously. It's hard not to take what they say personally. Even parents are people whose feelings can be hurt. Teaspoon tried to be patient and not lose his temper, but he didn't take the extra step of reassuring Lou that he loves her and doesn't want her to go to live with her bio father. Also, in trying to stay calm he failed to convey to her that her words were cruel and did hurt him, and therefore are unacceptable. Finally he didn't call her out on her BS. She knows full well her mother didn't want her to have anything to do with her bio dad, and why, and she didn't mean any of what she said. If her real dad showed up to take her from teaspoon she wouldn't want to go with him! I also think he needs to address the fact that she doesn't feel she can talk to him about her problems, if she kept this bullying to herself for

Hi Ellie, Yes, you summarized perfectly what is happening between Teaspoon and Lou. Things won't be this difficult forever, and Teaspoon and Lou will manage to compromise in the end. I feel sorry for both of them because they are both hurting and don't know how to deal with the situation. Even though Teaspoon is the adult here, he is at a loss how to treat Lou since she has never behaved this way.
