Maybe she had chosen some of the names at random, like Roy, but Edward was named after Edward scissor hands, who had artificial limbs. So some may be random and some not. It might just depend on the character. But this was a very interesting find. Thank you for sharing!

I remember hearing that, and I mean it wouldn't be unlikely at all (too coincidental I think). At some point someone told me that Arakawa claimed she'd never heard of Edward Scissorhands before. (I think it was in a Japanese interview). It's so hard to know when they're translated by fans and not officially released. (not that there's anything wrong with fans translating...just sometimes they make mistakes and/or read into something not there)
