Christmas Festivities

Dec 10, 2006 20:21

The holidays couldn't come at a better time this year. What with six classes and Quidditch practice, among other things, this has been the most stressful semester at Hogwarts yet. Fortunately, I was able to meet with Slughorn yesterday, and I convinced him that no sane wizard takes six NEWT-level classes at once. So, I will be dropping Arithmancy ( Read more... )

Glad to hear you'll be dropping Arithmancy-- six courses is a little over the top, however clever you may be. I'm also quite pleased that you'll be in Cornwall over the holidays. I think a little time together outside of Hogwarts could do us all good.

I don't know what your feelings toward your cousin at present are but her birthday is soon and you know how she loves presents-- it might do a world of help to get her something small as well as Christmas. If you would rather not put effort into finding something but you'd like me to see if I come upon anything while I'm shopping for her, let me know. Just an idea.

I am perfectly capable of purchasing my own gifts. Your assistance won't be required.

Given that my current holiday options are 1) the presence of your ignorant, horse faced blonde cousin and 2) my slightly less horse-faced yet equally blonde father, you can guess which option I will be pursuing. Despite the fact that the madness in your side of the pureblooded family tree is quite possibly contagious.

I shoudn't even need to add that I don't intend to pay Narcissa any mind. She's not worth the breath it would take to put her in her place.

However, if you or Rabastan persist in telling me what I may do or say, I will be sorely tempted to make this party a bit more interesting than either of you would prefer. I am quite capable of handling myself at a social event--I managed for seventeen years without the heavy-handed involvement of people around me.

Well, it's good to know you think so highly of my family, especially since you will be spending the holidays around three of us. And really, you need not worry about catching anything. After all, I've heard that once you've already had it, you can't get the same disease twice.

I have no doubt that you are capable of handling yourself, I was merely suggesting that we both be on our guard. It's been quite a while since I've seen Bellatrix, so I would like to make a good impression, especially since it is very generous of her to invite us into her home. And, of course, there's the fact that my parents will likely be dropping in at Cornwall at some point...

My priority right now is maintaining the position of Black family heir. Forgive me for overstepping my bounds, but you've been less than prudent in the past. I have much more to lose than you do, so I'm simply trying to cover my bases. I suppose it was foolish of me to think you would even begin to understand what that's like.

Less than prudent. Me. So, am I incorrect in recalling that not only did you tell your cousin about what Rabastan found us doing, you also proceeded to blame me for the entire situation simply because it was more convenient, creating the very situation that is bound to make my time at the Lestrange manor positively hellish? And you say I have acted with imprudence... hah.

Woe is poor little Reggiekins, nobody can understand your feelings and how you suffer as the heir to a wealthy and well-known family.

You do have more to lose than me. Much more. Perhaps you should keep what I know firsthand in mind and treat me with a bit of care.

Would you have me leave things to Rabastan to tell? Because somehow I don't see that resulting in a better situation than the one at hand. At least I was able to come up with a semi-plausible excuse, rather than Rabastan, who would've told her what he'd seen outright.

Sure, I could've confessed the truth, but considering she slapped me even after hearing my side of the story, I'd hate to see what would've happened if I'd been so rash. If covering my ass meant blaming things on you, then so be it. I value my position more than your already rocky relationship with my cousin.

Empty threats do nothing for me, Barty. Really, you're going to have to work harder than that if you want to make me angry...and I know how you enjoy irritating me.
