One of those locked within this little cage had performed some kind of ritual, which meant the murder of 21 specific victims -- the 21 Sacraments. He performed this act in order to revive his supposed mother, which turned out to be none other than Room 302 on the third floor.
Yet, the mansion had became a stage of its side effects, locking specific canaries either in or out of their respective cages. The stage began to transform in some kind of nightmare version of itself, yet not everyone seemed to be forced to be the audience of these changes.
In the end, the plot had come to an end. The ritual had failed, room 302 left locked and chained while the one responsible had been punished. The room was locked for good reason, that is all what I will tell about it.
But, it seems that which the cage contains is seeking a way out, seeking to spread its wings. At the very least, various signals point into that very direction.
