Well, I went to see the movie Julie & Julia yesterday, and I will say, it was delightful. I’m sure you’ve heard that Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Julia Child was stupendous. You honestly forget that you are watching an actress rather than the lady herself. Meryl Streep has mastered Julia’s verbal inflections astonishingly well. What a funny and ( Read more... )

Interesting. My mum wanted to see that movie - it sounds like one that she would she would enjoy. I love cooking, so I can certainly appreciate the love of good cuisine and especially baking.

Sad to hear that the real Julie is not as charming as her cinematic counterpart.

"Frankly, I’m married to neither party and find politicians, in general, a little too slippery to loathe or to love with such religious fervor.'

I agree with that statement quite heartily.

And I really enjoyed reading your favorite quotes:)

You mention that your mom is interested in seeing the movie but didn’t indicate whether or not you were. I presume that Julie & Julia didn’t strike your fancy. Is this a correct assumption? If it isn’t your cup of tea, what kind of movies do you like? I know you watch a lot of television programs, but I don’t think I’ve read a post where you mention what movies you like.

Do you cook often? What type of meals or foods do you enjoy cooking?

I have always enjoyed quotes. I find they often sum up and beautifully state (far better than I ever could) complex ideas. Of course, Dorothy Sayers says, “A facility for quotations covers an absence of original thought.” ;D

Well, I was not adverse to seeing "Julie and Julia," but it was not high on my to-see list. Slow films, and it appeared to be a more lengthy film (was it?), can be very frustrating for me, so I prefer to see them at home where I can fast forward or what-not ( ... )

I want to read the book now too! It sounds fascinating. I would love to go to France.;)
And, trying some of her recipes would be fun. I know that my aunt has her recipe books.;)

Ooh, if you ever try one of her recipes, let me know how it turns out. I want to buy her cook book. Sadly, I hardly ever cook. I get home so late during the week that my poor husband cooks for himself. On the weekends, he and I take turns cooking and then we normally cook quick meals. Julia Child we are not. ;D

I purchased her biography but have yet to start reading it. I probably won’t start it for a while as I’m trying to find the time to finish four other books right now.

I’d like to go to France as well. My girlfriend said it was beautiful. She can speak French fluently so that probably added to her experience. I have family in Italy and Greece and actually have family in France (that I don’t know). Maybe one of these days I’ll get to go and visit them. If not, que sera sera. ;D

That was one of the most delightful movies I have seen in a long time. I used to watch her show on TV and be amused by her voice and say to myself is this lady for real LOL. I have her original book and have tried many of her recipes. It was one of the first books I bought when I first got married, many moons ago before I even knew how to boil water let alone knew how to cook. In her book there weren't any pictures to let you see what the finished product would look like let alone taste like. Again I loved the movie.

Oooh, I would love to see her book! I didn't know that you owned it. I want to make her Beef Bourguignon. May I borrow it?

And, you know, I don't think I ever saw her shows on TV. Though I saw snippets here and there, I don't ever think they were while I was watching her show.

I think it is still packed, but I will find it and we will make the beef bourguignon. I have made it before a long time ago, I think it was of the few I did make in her book. LOL It was very fun and was delicious also. Yum Yum....
