I'm absolutely fine - I'm about 400km away from the epicentre of the quake. It was strong enough where I live to wake me up (I thought it was the cats fighting at first) and it made the light fittings swing, and I think some of my china plates rattled, but nothing even fell off the shelves - pretty much no damage where I am at all. It's Christchurch that has all the damage - no power, water and sewerage is damaged, lots of building damage especially in the city centre to the historic buildings that didn't have modern earthquake safety stuff . . . two major injuries, lots of minor, some people needed rescued, but no fatalities thank goodness. I'm dealing with my earthquake anxiety (they really FREAK ME OUT) by making up an emergency kit just in case we get another one and it's closer to me this time.
