[Asato is frightened.

Considering he first believed this place to be heaven, his disappointment quickly gives way to gnawing fear. He doesn't know quite where he is or why he's here or why there's humans walking around. The humans frighten him more than anything, so he tries his best to keep away from them if he can.

He's already found a bit of food

[Raf isn't sure at first if this is some kind of hallucination, but probably not, given that nothing but Tiri has been a hallucination recently, despite all the very strange things. His concern now, therefore, is not the ears and tail that the creature wears, but the pain he seems to be in.]

Their parents. Going way back, we evolved from monkeys.

[Raf's going to keep trying, though.]

[He fails to put two and two together and figure that ribika then, evolved from humans, or at least claimed their niche after their catastrophic disappearance. He knows what a monkey is in theory, and he can sort of see how they're alike, though.]

So where did I come from?

[an attempt to get philosophical, it certainly isn't.]

I don't know. You could have evolved parallel to humans, on a different planet?

That wouldn't explain why you think you'll become human when you die, though.

Because we saw them in the scribble-books! The pictures look just like you...it's like you're stuck on the paper! How do you do that?

[his fear is apparently forgotten at this point.]

[Thinks that this creature and the trolls should meet. In some ways they make the same amount of sense.]

You saw pictures of humans? Back on your world?

[A deep frown of consideration.]

Are you from Earth or somewhere else?

We're from Sisa! [which is, at most, a continent.]

It a place with water all around, and a lot of forest. There's not that, though. [he points to the sun. Sisa has two moons instead.]

And some buildings like these, but I don't think they're in as good of a shape. Ours are broken, but we still live in them, I heard.

[Blinks. The no sun part kind of take him aback.]

...How do you keep from freezing to death?

It's usually pretty warm. Ribika gave us another moon when the fire wheel sank into the ocean, so we could live.

Well, that's the story, anyway. It's a nice story!

[He smiles a bit.]

Unless you're asking if it's really warm...then yeah! It usually is, even down in the Valley.

It's a very baffling and not remotely possible story.

[Raf looks personally offended by that fact.]

[The boy's face falls a little at that. He begins to regret his enthusiasm even with the slightest sign of resistance.]

Well, I think it's a nice story. I don't really know where the moons or the forests or anything came from. But the stories are pretty and it's fun to share them...probably.

[He wouldn't know. He'd picked them up from books he "borrowed", or from listening in on adults sharing the tales with their kittens. From a distance, they always seemed to be having fun.]

Stories won't help us get out of our current situation and back to the places where we belong. Though I suppose it's likely your world is entirely irrelevant to that particular dilemma.

I know that. I'd really like to go home.

[Why, exactly, was anyone guess. To go back to being hated, worked to the bone and made a scapegoat? It was really all he knew.]

What do you mean by that? My world is irrelevant...?

I don't think it was anything about your world that made you be here, because I haven't seen any common threads about where people were taken. That's all I meant.
