[ Nest-building is a tedious but necessary business. Once he's settled in enough not the jump at the mere sight of a human being, Asato claims an empty apartment room as his own, furnishing it to his preference. It's not a huge territory; he would feel downright wrong claiming anything large. Even enough resources to sustain him are counted as a ( Read more... )

[Karkat hadn't been happy to finally get back to his pile of random shit to see that his computer had been taken. Although it is essentially useless now, that doesn't mean he wants people taking his stuff. So he sets off on a journey to find it, somewhat randomly stumbling upon Asato.]

Hey you. Nooksniffer. Have you seen my husktop around here somewhere?

[He follows the other up, annoyance writ on his face.]

I just want my husktop.

[He begins to sift through the other's stuff.]

[He lets Karkat look for the husktop, but keeps a close eye on him to make sure he doesn't end up ruining any of his more precious belongings. Not that he has many, but it's the principle of the thing.

In the meantime he points out a hole in the wall, almost big enough for him to fit his fist through.]

See? A hole in the wall.

What. I was talking about little holes that you put your charging apparatus into.

[Karkat gives him a deadpan look before continuing to search. Eventually he finds it, yanking it from the pile.]

Fucking thief.

That's yours?

[He just gives a slight shrug. He'd found the thing and had no idea what it was, so he took it home to see what it did. Whatever it was, it seemed like magic to him, so he figured maybe he could conjure up some proper-tasting food]

If it belongs to you, keep it. I'm sorry for taking it.

Gee, thank you for the permission to keep something that's mine in the first place. You're so fucking kind.

[Karkat eyes him for a second and then goes back to shifting through his stuff. He wants to make sure there's nothing else he recognizes that was taken from one of his friends.]

[He hangs his head a little, admittedly feeling pretty bad for taking the husktop; he just didn't think it belonged to anyone. Nevertheless he lets Karkat keep looking. If he were to get close to anything precious to him personally, he'd let him know very quickly. The rest of it, though, is mostly trinkets, shiny pebbles, a shoelace, and other assorted junk he intends to use in constructing his nest.]

[Karkat doesn't find anything of interest, and backs off after a minute of searching.]

You can't just TAKE whatever you want, idiot.

No one said anything when I took food or this room. Besides, you can have your top back. I'm really sorry for taking it. Really, I am. I won't take any more tops ever again. Promise.

[Impatient sigh.]

It's called a husktop. And food is fair game, but personal possessions are off-limits. You already said you'd get pissed if I took your stuff, so why are you just taking everyone else's stuff?

I didn't know it was yours. I'd never seen anything like it before.

Do you make it a fucking habit of going around and taking things that don't have their owners immediately by them?

I don't steal clothes or weapons or anything like that...I just didn't know this was supposed to belong to anyone.

Why wouldn't it? Practically everything belongs to someone else. Especially expensive fucking equipment.

I didn't know it was like that. It just looked like something weird.

[He takes a hesitant glance at the husktop.]

What does it even do?

It's supposed to talk to fucking people, but look.

[Karkat opens it up. The keys are all in Alternian, in fact, everything is.]

You type with this.
