Brother Bear 2? Where did that come from?

Aug 25, 2006 19:05

Interesting. I didn't even know that there was a Brother Bear 2 in development until I saw an ad for it in the new issue of Reader's Digest that came in the mail today. Not only is the direct-to-home video movie done, it comes out Tuesday of next week (August 29). Talk about a quiet advertising campaign. Of course, since I've yet to watch the ( Read more... )

I was really happy to hear it was in production until I watched the trailer and saw they had Wanda Sykes as the shaman woman and it totally destroyed any desire I had to watch it. Mostly because they're letting Wanda give the woman a modern woman's attitude and it's just too retarded to ignore.

yah, that was one of my first bad impressions of the sequel....I liked the shaman woman from the original much better....Kenai doesn't fit either, his voice is all wrong (I know the first actor offed himself) and he looks aged, like he's supposed to be significantly older, yet Koda is still a small cub- wtf's up with that?

on the other hand, I had low expectations anyway, I KNEW disney would f*ck this up just like they destroy all of their classics by making lower grade sequels. I'll buy it, I'm sure, but only because I'm that fond of the original concept.

That really sucks. I wonder if the powers-that-be at Disney think that BB2 will be even more of a disaster than their usual direct-to-home video movie sequels. That would explain why I've seen no advertising for it at all other than that ad in Reader's Digest. No TV commercials and no pre-release store displays aren't Disney's usual mode of action...

I didn't know about Brother Bear 2 either. Sequels are rarely as good as the original, alas, but you definitely should see the original in this case. It is flawed by the usual Disney rush to market and overediting, but still a superb story with truly fine artwork.

*nods* Disney's sequels especially usually pale in comparison to the original movies, although I did like Lion King 1.5, and I haven't watched Bambi II yet. I did get the original Brother Bear when it came out on DVD, but I just haven't gotten around to watching it yet, for a few reasons. It's on my list, though...

*grin!* Sounds like a winner to me! I certainly go to the theater to see it ;-)

You're not the only one dreaming about it, I'm sure ;-)

That's interesting! No, not only isn't it out here yet, it's coming out very quietly with virtually no advertising at all. I wonder if it's a movie that Disney isn't too happy with, and they're just trying to sneak it out into stores...

I have a friend in Chile and he bought it and watched it last week... How odd o.0
If it was just here it could be a glitch (like happened with Harry Potter books in a book store in Canada, I think); but also Chile, so probably the rest of Latin America (DVD Region 4) got it early, I wonder why

I hadn't heard of it either, but that's not a sign of anything, I don't watch TV these days or anything, so I may've missed the ads. I did see a billboard on our "highway" though

Robin Hood 2 could be nice. As long as it's not at a Secret of Nimh 2 level (I still have a VHS even with how bad it is).

But the battles were over in Robin Hood. They'd just have to focus on the foxes and bunnies doing other things. ;-)

I do see something else that comes out at the same time. Tale Spin. I'm definitely going to pick up that.

I've never seen Secret of Nimh 2, although I've never heard anything good said about it, so I know it's a movie that's better off not watched.

You say that as if it were a bad thing ;-) I'm sure Disney could come up with some suitable adversary for Robin and Company to face. Of course, they could make a second Robin Hood movie a prequel to the original Robin Hood, maybe focusing on a younger Robin assembling his band of Merry Men after Prince John takes over. That could be interesting, IMHO.

Tale Spin. I'm definitely going to pick up that.

I didn't know about that, either. I think I'll have to check that out, so thanks for the heads up! :-)
